FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Being one of their biggest financial investments people typically have a ton of questions before makingany decisions , listed here are a number of the most common ones…
Unless you are a certified contractor, most roofing jobs should never be performed yourself. In addition always remember that a lot of manufacturers of products utilized in the repair of the roof will not warranty those items unless a licensed professional performs the work. The other thing to always remember is that working on a roof can be very risky, so is it really worth jeopardizing your health so you can save money?
It would be great if we could give you a straight forward response to that question! But there actually is no single answer fits all for every question like that. There are many unique products available and each has its own advantages and disadvantages. To determine which is the right roof for your home, you should have an expert come and check out your roof and they can make recommendations according to what they have seen, the type of roof you have, the climate you reside in and, of course, your budget.
It actually depends on the type of roof and exactly what evaluations are mandated. Also, remember that we will be working outside in the elements, so if the weather is bad and we can’t work on particular days then this will add more time to the job. A small home might take around a week or so, while larger industrial projects may be anything from several weeks to a number of months. Just make certain your roofing contractor keeps you updated and you should be fine.
Given that your roof is continually exposed to the weather, it means your roof is will deteriorate over time. The pace at which it degrades will depend on a variety of factors. These include; the grade of the initial components that were used and the workmanship, the amount of abuse it has to take from the weather, how well the roof is maintained and the design of the roof. Most roofing companies will estimate around 20 years for a well-built and well-kept roof, but obviously that can never be promised because of the above factors. Our advice is to consistently keep your roof well maintained and get regular roof inspections to be sure it lasts as long as possible.
You should never pressure wash your roof, as you take the risk of getting rid of any protective minerals that have been included to give protection from the elements. On top of that, you should steer clear of chlorine-based bleach cleaners since they can also decrease the life-span of your roof. When you talk to your roof cleaning specialist, tell them to use an EPA-approved algaecide/fungicide to wash your roof. This will get rid of the aesthetically displeasing algae and staining without ruining the tile or shingles.

More About Matthews, NC
Matthews is a town in southeastern Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. It is a suburb of Charlotte. The population was 27,198 according to the 2010 Census.
In the early 19th century, the early settlement that would become Matthews was unofficially named Stumptown for the copious amount of tree stumps left from making way for cotton farms. The community’s name later changed to Fullwood, named after appointed area postmaster John Miles Fullwood. The establishment of a sawmill and the cotton and timber industry helped Fullwood change into a town. Prior to the first train arriving on December 15, 1874, Fullwood acted as a stagecoach stop between Charlotte and Monroe. The town was incorporated into a municipal corporation in 1879 and was renamed to Matthews for Edward Watson Matthews, a prominent resident, and director of the Central Carolina Railroad, which would later become known as the Seaboard Air Line Railroad.[4][5]
The Seaboard Air Line Fell Into Seaboard On July 1, 1967. Seaboard Then Merged With Chessie System To Create CSX (Chessie Seaboard X)

We continually make every effort to improve our ability as residential and commercial roofing contractors.

Homeowner upkeep includes cleaning up the leaves and debris from the roofing’s valleys and gutters. Particles in the valleys can trigger water to wick under the shingles and cause damage to the interior of the roof. Clogged gutter can trigger water to flow back under the shingles on the eaves and cause damage, despite the roof material.
The very best method to maintain your roofing is to remain off it. Likewise, seasonal changes in the weather are usually the most damaging forces. A dripping roofing system can damage ceilings, walls and furnishings. To protect structures and their contents from water damage, roofing professionals repair and install roofing systems made from tar or asphalt and gravel; rubber or thermoplastic; metal; or shingles made of asphalt, slate, fiberglass, wood, tile, or other product.
There are two types of roofs: flat and pitched (sloped). Many industrial, commercial and apartment have flat or somewhat sloping roofs. The majority of houses have actually pitched roofing systems. Some roofing professionals deal with both types; others specialize. Most flat roofing systems are covered with numerous layers of products. Roofers first put a layer of insulation on the roofing deck.
Next, they set up partly overlapping layers of roof felt, a material saturated in bitumen, over the surface. Roofing contractors utilize a mop to spread hot bitumen over the surface and under the next layer. This seals the joints and makes the surface area watertight. Roofing contractors duplicate these actions to build up the desired number of layers, called plies. To use shingles, roofing professionals first lay, cut, and tack 3-foot strips of roofing felt lengthwise over the entire roofing. Then, beginning with the bottom edge, they staple or nail overlapping rows of shingles to the roof. Workers measure and cut the felt and shingles to fit converging roofing surfaces and to fit around vent pipes and chimneys.
Finally, roofers cover exposed nailheads with roof cement or caulking to avoid water leakage. Roofing contractors who use tile, metal shingles or shakes follow a comparable process. Some roofing professionals also water-proof and damp-proof masonry and concrete walls and floorings. To prepare surface areas for waterproofing, they hammer and sculpt away rough areas, or remove them with a rubbing brick, prior to using a coat of liquid waterproofing compound.
When damp-proofing, they usually spray a bitumen-based finishing on interior or exterior surfaces. Asphalt is the most frequently utilized roof product. Asphalt products consist of shingles, roll-roofing, built-up roofing, and modified bitumen membranes. Asphalt shingles are usually the most common and affordable option for domestic roofing. They can be found in a range of colors, shapes and textures.
Laminated shingles include more than one layer of tabs to supply additional density. Interlocking shingles are utilized to offer greater wind resistance. And large specific shingles usually come in rectangle-shaped and hexagonal shapes. Roll-roofing items are generally used in residential applications, primarily for underlayments and flashings. They are available in 4 various types of material: smooth-surfaced, saturated felt, specialty-eaves flashings, and mineral-surfaced.
Smooth-surfaced products are utilized mostly as flashing to seal the roofing system at crossways and protrusions, and for providing extra deck defense at the roofing system’s eaves and valleys. Saturated felt is utilized as an underlayment in between the roofing system deck and the roofing product. Specialty-eaves flashings are usually used in climates where ice dams and water backups are common.
BUR is utilized on flat and low-sloped roofs and consists of several layers of bitumen and ply sheets. Parts of a BUR system consist of the roof deck, a vapor retarder, insulation, membrane, and appearing product. A customized bitumen-membrane assembly consists of constant plies of saturated felts, coated felts, fabrics or mats in between which alternate layers of bitumen are used, either emerged or unsurfaced.
