FAQs
Being one of their largest expenditures people always have a many questions prior to makingany decisions , listed here are a few of the most commonplace ones…
Unless you are a qualified roofing professional, the majority of roofing tasks should never be undertaken yourself. In addition bear in mind that the majority of manufacturers of products utilized in the roof repair will not warranty those products unless a licensed professional performs the work. Something else to keep in mind is that working on a roof is going to be very risky, so is it really worth jeopardizing your health for you to save money?
It would be really good if we were able to give you a simple answer to that question! However, there actually is no one answer that fits all for each question like that. There are so many different products readily available and each and every one will have its own benefits and faults. To figure out which is the ideal roof for your home, you really should have an expert come and examine your roof and they can make recommendations based on what they find, the type of roof you have, the environment you live in and, of course, your budget.
It definitely depends on the kind of roof you currently have and what inspections are mandated. Also, bear in mind that we will be working outdoors in the elements, so if the weather is bad and we can’t work on certain days then this will add time to the task. A smaller home may take around a week or so, while larger industrial jobs might be anything from several weeks to a few months. Just see to it your roofing company keeps you updated and you should be fine.
Due to the fact that your roof is always exposed to the weather, it means your roof is going to diminish with time. The rate at which it deteriorates will be dependent on a number of factors. These include; the grade of the initial materials that were used and the workmanship, the level of abuse it has to take from the weather, how well the roof is taken care of and the design of the roof. Most roofing professionals will quote around 20 years for a well-built and well-kept roof, but that can never be guaranteed as a result of the above factors. Our suggestion is to always keep your roof well maintained and get regular inspections to make sure it lasts as long as possible.
You should not ever pressure wash your roof, as you run the risk of removing any protective minerals that have been added to provide cover from the elements. Aside from that, you really should try to stay away from chlorine-based bleach cleaning products as they may also diminish the lifespan of your roof. When you communicate with your roof cleaning expert, tell them to use an EPA-approved algaecide/fungicide to clean your roof. This will eliminate the unsightly algae and staining without destroying the tile or shingles.

More About Matthews, NC
Matthews is a town in southeastern Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. It is a suburb of Charlotte. The population was 27,198 according to the 2010 Census.
In the early 19th century, the early settlement that would become Matthews was unofficially named Stumptown for the copious amount of tree stumps left from making way for cotton farms. The community’s name later changed to Fullwood, named after appointed area postmaster John Miles Fullwood. The establishment of a sawmill and the cotton and timber industry helped Fullwood change into a town. Prior to the first train arriving on December 15, 1874, Fullwood acted as a stagecoach stop between Charlotte and Monroe. The town was incorporated into a municipal corporation in 1879 and was renamed to Matthews for Edward Watson Matthews, a prominent resident, and director of the Central Carolina Railroad, which would later become known as the Seaboard Air Line Railroad.[4][5]
The Seaboard Air Line Fell Into Seaboard On July 1, 1967. Seaboard Then Merged With Chessie System To Create CSX (Chessie Seaboard X)

Property owner upkeep includes cleaning up the leaves and particles from the roofing’s valleys and gutters. Particles in the valleys can cause water to wick under the shingles and cause damage to the interior of the roofing system. Stopped up gutter can cause water to recede under the shingles on the eaves and trigger damage, despite the roofing material.
The very best method to preserve your roofing is to remain off it. Also, seasonal modifications in the weather are usually the most damaging forces. A dripping roof can harm ceilings, walls and home furnishings. To secure structures and their contents from water damage, roofers repair work and set up roofs made of tar or asphalt and gravel; rubber or thermoplastic; metal; or shingles made from asphalt, slate, fiberglass, wood, tile, or other product.
There are two kinds of roofs: flat and pitched (sloped). The majority of business, commercial and apartment or condo structures have flat or slightly sloping roofing systems. Most houses have actually pitched roofing systems. Some roofing professionals deal with both types; others specialize. Most flat roofs are covered with a number of layers of products. Roofing professionals first put a layer of insulation on the roof deck.
Next, they set up partly overlapping layers of roof felt, a material saturated in bitumen, over the surface area. Roofers utilize a mop to spread out hot bitumen over the surface and under the next layer. This seals the joints and makes the surface watertight. Roofers repeat these steps to develop the desired number of layers, called plies. To apply shingles, roofing contractors first lay, cut, and tack 3-foot strips of roof felt lengthwise over the entire roof. Then, beginning from the bottom edge, they staple or nail overlapping rows of shingles to the roofing. Workers measure and cut the felt and shingles to fit intersecting roofing system surface areas and to fit around vent pipelines and chimneys.
Lastly, roofers cover exposed nailheads with roofing cement or caulking to avoid water leakage. Roofers who use tile, metal shingles or shakes follow a comparable procedure. Some roofers likewise water-proof and damp-proof masonry and concrete walls and floorings. To prepare surface areas for waterproofing, they hammer and chisel away rough areas, or eliminate them with a rubbing brick, prior to applying a coat of liquid waterproofing substance.
When damp-proofing, they usually spray a bitumen-based finishing on interior or exterior surface areas. Asphalt is the most frequently used roof product. Asphalt items include shingles, roll-roofing, built-up roof, and modified bitumen membranes. Asphalt shingles are usually the most typical and cost-effective option for domestic roof. They can be found in a variety of colors, shapes and textures.
Laminated shingles consist of more than one layer of tabs to offer additional density. Interlocking shingles are utilized to provide higher wind resistance. And large individual shingles normally are available in rectangular and hexagonal shapes. Roll-roofing products are normally utilized in domestic applications, mostly for underlayments and flashings. They can be found in four various types of product: smooth-surfaced, saturated felt, specialty-eaves flashings, and mineral-surfaced.
Smooth-surfaced items are used primarily as flashing to seal the roofing system at intersections and protrusions, and for supplying additional deck defense at the roofing system’s eaves and valleys. Saturated felt is used as an underlayment in between the roofing system deck and the roof material. Specialty-eaves flashings are generally used in environments where ice dams and water backups prevail.
BUR is utilized on flat and low-sloped roofs and includes several layers of bitumen and ply sheets. Components of a BUR system include the roofing system deck, a vapor retarder, insulation, membrane, and emerging product. A customized bitumen-membrane assembly includes continuous plies of saturated felts, layered felts, materials or mats in between which alternate layers of bitumen are used, either surfaced or unsurfaced.
