FAQs

As one of their largest expenditures people always have a number of questions prior to makingany decisions , listed here are a number of the more commonplace ones…

Unless you’re a certified roofing professional, most roofing tasks shouldn’t be undertaken yourself. Also always remember that a lot of manufacturers of products used in the repair of the roof won’t warranty those items unless a licensed professional performs the job. The other thing to remember is that working on a roof can be very risky, so is it really worth risking your health so you can save money?

It would be great if we could give you a straight forward answer to that question! But there really is no single answer fits all for each question like that. There are so many different products available and each has its own benefits and disadvantages. To determine which is the ideal roof for your home, you ought to have a contractor come and take a look at your roof and they can make suggestions based on what they discover, your roof design, the climate you reside in and, of course, your budget.

It definitely depends upon the kind of roof and what surveys are mandated. Also, bear in mind that we will be working outdoors in the elements, so if the weather isn’t good and we cannot work on a number of days then this will certainly add time to the task. A smaller home may take about a week or so, while more substantial commercial projects might be anything from a few weeks to a number of months. Just ensure your roofing company keeps you updated and you really should be fine.

Given that your roof is continually subjected to the outside elements, it means your roof is will degrade with time. The rate at which it breaks down will depend upon a variety of variables. These include; the grade of the initial materials that were used as well as the workmanship, the level of abuse it will have to take from the weather, how well the roof is taken care of and the design of the roof. Most roofing professionals will estimate around 20 years for a well-built and properly maintained roof, but obviously that can never be promised as a result of the above factors. Our advice is to consistently keep your roof well maintained and get regular inspections to be sure it lasts as long as possible.

You shouldn’t ever pressure-wash your roof, as you run the risk of washing away any covering minerals that have been added to offer protection from the elements. Furthermore, you really should stay away from chlorine-based bleach cleaners as they may also reduce the life of your roof. When you communicate with your roof cleaning specialist, tell them to use an EPA-approved algaecide/fungicide to wash your roof. This will get rid of the aesthetically displeasing algae and discoloration without damaging the tile or shingles.

More About Matthews, NC

Matthews is a town in southeastern Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. It is a suburb of Charlotte. The population was 27,198 according to the 2010 Census.

In the early 19th century, the early settlement that would become Matthews was unofficially named Stumptown for the copious amount of tree stumps left from making way for cotton farms. The community’s name later changed to Fullwood, named after appointed area postmaster John Miles Fullwood. The establishment of a sawmill and the cotton and timber industry helped Fullwood change into a town. Prior to the first train arriving on December 15, 1874, Fullwood acted as a stagecoach stop between Charlotte and Monroe. The town was incorporated into a municipal corporation in 1879 and was renamed to Matthews for Edward Watson Matthews, a prominent resident, and director of the Central Carolina Railroad, which would later become known as the Seaboard Air Line Railroad.[4][5]
The Seaboard Air Line Fell Into Seaboard On July 1, 1967. Seaboard Then Merged With Chessie System To Create CSX (Chessie Seaboard X)

The terrific environment comes with a cost, however. It can be rough on roofs. Our company prides itself on keeping your business roof and property roofing in prime condition. If you need a brand-new roofing system, we will install it. If you require repair work, we will do a quality job. We continually strive to enhance our ability as residential and commercial roofing contractors.

We provide trust, integrity, quality, and peace of mind. Numerous companies can offer you a roofing, but very few can offer you the safe and secure sensation that we do. Dealing with a quality roofing business lowers your worry and permits you to focus on your work and your household.

Homeowner maintenance consists of cleaning the leaves and particles from the roof’s valleys and seamless gutters. Particles in the valleys can trigger water to wick under the shingles and trigger damage to the interior of the roofing. Blocked gutter can cause water to flow back under the shingles on the eaves and cause damage, regardless of the roofing product.

The finest way to protect your roofing system is to remain off it. Likewise, seasonal modifications in the weather are normally the most damaging forces. A dripping roof can harm ceilings, walls and furnishings. To protect structures and their contents from water damage, roofers repair and set up roofings made from tar or asphalt and gravel; rubber or thermoplastic; metal; or shingles made from asphalt, slate, fiberglass, wood, tile, or other material.

There are 2 kinds of roofs: flat and pitched (sloped). A lot of business, commercial and apartment have flat or somewhat sloping roofings. Many houses have actually pitched roofings. Some roofers deal with both types; others specialize. A lot of flat roofs are covered with numerous layers of materials. Roofing contractors initially put a layer of insulation on the roofing system deck.

Next, they set up partly overlapping layers of roof felt, a material saturated in bitumen, over the surface area. Roofers use a mop to spread hot bitumen over the surface and under the next layer. This seals the seams and makes the surface area watertight. Roofing contractors duplicate these steps to construct up the desired variety of layers, called plies. To apply shingles, roofers first lay, cut, and tack 3-foot strips of roof felt lengthwise over the whole roofing. Then, beginning with the bottom edge, they staple or nail overlapping rows of shingles to the roofing system. Workers measure and cut the felt and shingles to fit intersecting roof surface areas and to fit around vent pipelines and chimneys.

Finally, roofing contractors cover exposed nailheads with roofing cement or caulking to prevent water leakage. Roofers who use tile, metal shingles or shakes follow a similar process. Some roofing professionals also water-proof and damp-proof masonry and concrete walls and floors. To prepare surfaces for waterproofing, they hammer and sculpt away rough spots, or remove them with a rubbing brick, before using a coat of liquid waterproofing substance.

When damp-proofing, they usually spray a bitumen-based coating on interior or exterior surface areas. Asphalt is the most typically utilized roof product. Asphalt products consist of shingles, roll-roofing, built-up roofing, and modified bitumen membranes. Asphalt shingles are typically the most typical and economical option for property roofing. They can be found in a variety of colors, shapes and textures.

Laminated shingles include more than one layer of tabs to offer extra thickness. Interlocking shingles are utilized to offer higher wind resistance. And large private shingles normally are available in rectangle-shaped and hexagonal shapes. Roll-roofing products are usually utilized in residential applications, primarily for underlayments and flashings. They can be found in 4 different kinds of material: smooth-surfaced, saturated felt, specialty-eaves flashings, and mineral-surfaced.

Smooth-surfaced products are utilized primarily as flashing to seal the roof at intersections and protrusions, and for providing additional deck security at the roofing’s eaves and valleys. Saturated felt is utilized as an underlayment between the roofing system deck and the roof material. Specialty-eaves flashings are generally utilized in environments where ice dams and water backups prevail.

BUR is utilized on flat and low-sloped roofs and includes multiple layers of bitumen and ply sheets. Components of a BUR system include the roof deck, a vapor retarder, insulation, membrane, and surfacing product. A customized bitumen-membrane assembly includes constant plies of saturated felts, layered felts, fabrics or mats in between which alternate layers of bitumen are used, either appeared or unsurfaced.
