FAQs

As one of their biggest expenditures people typically have a lotof questions before coming to a conclusion , below are a number of the more common ones…

Unless you are a certified contractor, most roofing tasks should never be carried out yourself. Additionally keep in mind that a lot of manufacturers of products used in the roof repair won’t warranty those items unless a certified professional carries out the task. The other thing to keep in mind is that working on a roof could be very hazardous, so is it really worth risking your health so you can save money?

It would be fantastic if we could give you a straight forward response to that question! However, there actually is no single answer fits all for every question like that. There are plenty of unique products readily available and each has its own advantages and faults. To figure out which is the ideal roof for your home, you really should have a contractor come and check out your roof and they can make recommendations according to what they find, your roof design, the climate you reside in and, of course, your budget.

It really depends on the type of roof and exactly what surveys are required. Also, remember that we’re working outdoors in the elements, so if the weather isn’t good and we can’t work on particular days then this will add more time to the task. A small home could take about a week or so, whereas much larger commercial jobs may be anything from several weeks to a few months. Just see to it your roofing contractor keeps you updated and you really should be fine.

Given that your roof is continuously subjected to the outside elements, this means your roof is going to degrade over time. The speed at which it breaks down will be dependent on a variety of variables. These include; the grade of the initial components used along with the craftsmanship, the level of abuse it has to take from the elements, how well the roof is maintained and the style of the roof. Most roofing professionals will quote around 20 years for a well-built and properly maintained roof, but obviously that can never be promised because of the above variables. Our suggestion is to always keep your roof well maintained and get regular roof inspections to be sure it lasts as long as possible.

You should never pressure-wash your roof, as you run the risk of eliminating any protective minerals that have been included to give protection from the elements. Furthermore, you should avoid chlorine-based bleach cleaning products as they may also reduce the life of your roof. When you talk to your roof cleaning professional, ask them to use an EPA-approved algaecide/fungicide to wash your roof. This will clear away the undesirable algae and discoloration without ruining the tile or shingles.

More About Matthews, NC

Matthews is a town in southeastern Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. It is a suburb of Charlotte. The population was 27,198 according to the 2010 Census.

In the early 19th century, the early settlement that would become Matthews was unofficially named Stumptown for the copious amount of tree stumps left from making way for cotton farms. The community’s name later changed to Fullwood, named after appointed area postmaster John Miles Fullwood. The establishment of a sawmill and the cotton and timber industry helped Fullwood change into a town. Prior to the first train arriving on December 15, 1874, Fullwood acted as a stagecoach stop between Charlotte and Monroe. The town was incorporated into a municipal corporation in 1879 and was renamed to Matthews for Edward Watson Matthews, a prominent resident, and director of the Central Carolina Railroad, which would later become known as the Seaboard Air Line Railroad.[4][5]
The Seaboard Air Line Fell Into Seaboard On July 1, 1967. Seaboard Then Merged With Chessie System To Create CSX (Chessie Seaboard X)

We use trust, integrity, quality, and comfort. Many companies can give you a roofing, but very few can give you the safe and secure feeling that we do. Dealing with a quality roof business decreases your worry and enables you to concentrate on your work and your household.

Homeowner upkeep includes cleaning the leaves and particles from the roofing’s valleys and gutters. Debris in the valleys can trigger water to wick under the shingles and cause damage to the interior of the roofing. Clogged up gutter can trigger water to recede under the shingles on the eaves and cause damage, regardless of the roof product.

The very best method to preserve your roofing is to remain off it. Also, seasonal modifications in the weather are usually the most damaging forces. A dripping roofing can damage ceilings, walls and furnishings. To protect structures and their contents from water damage, roofing professionals repair work and set up roofs made of tar or asphalt and gravel; rubber or thermoplastic; metal; or shingles made of asphalt, slate, fiberglass, wood, tile, or other material.

There are two kinds of roofings: flat and pitched (sloped). A lot of commercial, industrial and apartment have flat or somewhat sloping roofing systems. A lot of homes have actually pitched roofings. Some roofing professionals deal with both types; others specialize. Most flat roofings are covered with a number of layers of materials. Roofers initially put a layer of insulation on the roofing deck.

Next, they set up partially overlapping layers of roof felt, a fabric filled in bitumen, over the surface area. Roofers utilize a mop to spread out hot bitumen over the surface area and under the next layer. This seals the seams and makes the surface area watertight. Roofers repeat these actions to construct up the wanted number of layers, called plies. To apply shingles, roofing professionals initially lay, cut, and tack 3-foot strips of roof felt lengthwise over the whole roofing system. Then, beginning from the bottom edge, they staple or nail overlapping rows of shingles to the roofing. Workers measure and cut the felt and shingles to fit converging roofing system surface areas and to fit around vent pipelines and chimneys.

Finally, roofing contractors cover exposed nailheads with roofing cement or caulking to avoid water leakage. Roofing professionals who use tile, metal shingles or shakes follow a similar procedure. Some roofing contractors likewise water-proof and damp-proof masonry and concrete walls and floors. To prepare surface areas for waterproofing, they hammer and sculpt away rough areas, or remove them with a rubbing brick, before applying a coat of liquid waterproofing substance.

When damp-proofing, they normally spray a bitumen-based finishing on interior or outside surfaces. Asphalt is the most commonly used roof product. Asphalt products include shingles, roll-roofing, built-up roof, and modified bitumen membranes. Asphalt shingles are usually the most typical and cost-effective choice for domestic roof. They come in a variety of colors, shapes and textures.

Laminated shingles consist of more than one layer of tabs to offer additional thickness. Interlocking shingles are used to provide greater wind resistance. And large individual shingles typically can be found in rectangle-shaped and hexagonal shapes. Roll-roofing products are normally utilized in domestic applications, mainly for underlayments and flashings. They are available in 4 various kinds of material: smooth-surfaced, saturated felt, specialty-eaves flashings, and mineral-surfaced.

Smooth-surfaced products are utilized mostly as flashing to seal the roof at crossways and protrusions, and for providing additional deck security at the roof’s eaves and valleys. Saturated felt is used as an underlayment in between the roofing system deck and the roofing product. Specialty-eaves flashings are generally used in environments where ice dams and water backups are common.

BUR is used on flat and low-sloped roofing systems and consists of several layers of bitumen and ply sheets. Elements of a BUR system consist of the roof deck, a vapor retarder, insulation, membrane, and appearing material. A customized bitumen-membrane assembly consists of continuous plies of saturated felts, layered felts, materials or mats between which alternate layers of bitumen are used, either surfaced or unsurfaced.
