FAQs
As one of their most significant expenditures people usually have a many questions prior to coming to a conclusion , below are some of the more common ones…
Unless you are a properly trained roofing professional, most roofing jobs should not be undertaken yourself. Additionally remember that the majority of manufacturers of products used in the repair of the roof will not warranty those products unless a licensed professional carries out the work. The other thing to remember is that working on a roof is going to be very dangerous, so is it really worth risking your health for you to save money?
It would be great if we were able to give you a straight forward answer to that question! However there actually is no single answer fits all for each question like that. There are plenty of unique products readily available and each one will have its own benefits and faults. To figure out which is the best roof for your home, you should have a contractor come and examine your roof and they can make suggestions according to what they discover, the type of roof you have, the climate you live in and, of course, your budget.
It definitely depends upon the type of roof you have and exactly what surveys are needed. Also, keep in mind that we’re working outdoors in the elements, so if the weather isn’t good and we can’t work on certain days then this will certainly add more time to the job. A smaller home may take around a week or so, while more substantial commercial projects could be anything from a few weeks to a number of months. Just see to it your roofing company keeps you updated and you really should be fine.
Considering that your roof is continually subjected to the outside elements, it means your roof is will deteriorate with time. The rate at which it breaks down will be dependent on a variety of factors. These include; the quality of the initial materials used along with the craftsmanship, the level of abuse it has to take from the weather, how well the roof is preserved and the style of the roof. Most roofing contractors will quote around 20 years for a well-built and properly maintained roof, but obviously that can never be guaranteed as a result of the above factors. Our advice is to consistently keep your roof well maintained and get regular inspections to make sure it lasts as long as possible.
You should never pressure-wash your roof, as you run the risk of removing any covering minerals that have been included to provide cover from the weather. Furthermore, you really should avoid chlorine-based bleach cleaning products since they can easily also decrease the life-span of your roof. When you talk to your roof cleaning expert, tell them to use an EPA-approved algaecide/fungicide to clean your roof. This will clear away the unappealing algae and staining without destroying the tile or shingles.

More About Matthews, NC
Matthews is a town in southeastern Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. It is a suburb of Charlotte. The population was 27,198 according to the 2010 Census.
In the early 19th century, the early settlement that would become Matthews was unofficially named Stumptown for the copious amount of tree stumps left from making way for cotton farms. The community’s name later changed to Fullwood, named after appointed area postmaster John Miles Fullwood. The establishment of a sawmill and the cotton and timber industry helped Fullwood change into a town. Prior to the first train arriving on December 15, 1874, Fullwood acted as a stagecoach stop between Charlotte and Monroe. The town was incorporated into a municipal corporation in 1879 and was renamed to Matthews for Edward Watson Matthews, a prominent resident, and director of the Central Carolina Railroad, which would later become known as the Seaboard Air Line Railroad.[4][5]
The Seaboard Air Line Fell Into Seaboard On July 1, 1967. Seaboard Then Merged With Chessie System To Create CSX (Chessie Seaboard X)

House owner maintenance consists of cleaning the leaves and particles from the roofing’s valleys and seamless gutters. Debris in the valleys can cause water to wick under the shingles and cause damage to the interior of the roofing system. Stopped up gutter can trigger water to recede under the shingles on the eaves and trigger damage, despite the roof material.
The very best way to maintain your roofing is to remain off it. Also, seasonal changes in the weather are normally the most damaging forces. A dripping roofing system can harm ceilings, walls and furnishings. To protect structures and their contents from water damage, roofing professionals repair and set up roofings made from tar or asphalt and gravel; rubber or thermoplastic; metal; or shingles made from asphalt, slate, fiberglass, wood, tile, or other product.
There are two kinds of roofs: flat and pitched (sloped). Most business, commercial and apartment have flat or slightly sloping roofs. A lot of houses have actually pitched roofing systems. Some roofing contractors work on both types; others specialize. A lot of flat roofing systems are covered with a number of layers of products. Roofing professionals initially put a layer of insulation on the roofing system deck.
Next, they set up partially overlapping layers of roof felt, a fabric filled in bitumen, over the surface area. Roofers utilize a mop to spread out hot bitumen over the surface area and under the next layer. This seals the joints and makes the surface watertight. Roofing contractors duplicate these actions to build up the preferred number of layers, called plies. To use shingles, roofing contractors initially lay, cut, and tack 3-foot strips of roof felt lengthwise over the whole roofing system. Then, beginning from the bottom edge, they staple or nail overlapping rows of shingles to the roof. Employees step and cut the felt and shingles to fit converging roofing system surfaces and to fit around vent pipes and chimneys.
Finally, roofing professionals cover exposed nailheads with roofing cement or caulking to avoid water leakage. Roofing contractors who utilize tile, metal shingles or shakes follow a similar process. Some roofing contractors also water-proof and damp-proof masonry and concrete walls and floors. To prepare surface areas for waterproofing, they hammer and chisel away rough spots, or eliminate them with a rubbing brick, before using a coat of liquid waterproofing substance.
When damp-proofing, they normally spray a bitumen-based finish on interior or exterior surfaces. Asphalt is the most frequently used roof material. Asphalt items consist of shingles, roll-roofing, built-up roof, and customized bitumen membranes. Asphalt shingles are normally the most common and cost-effective option for property roofing. They can be found in a range of colors, shapes and textures.
Laminated shingles consist of more than one layer of tabs to offer extra thickness. Interlocking shingles are utilized to offer higher wind resistance. And large specific shingles typically can be found in rectangular and hexagonal shapes. Roll-roofing products are generally utilized in domestic applications, mostly for underlayments and flashings. They come in 4 various types of material: smooth-surfaced, saturated felt, specialty-eaves flashings, and mineral-surfaced.
Smooth-surfaced products are utilized mainly as flashing to seal the roofing at intersections and protrusions, and for offering additional deck defense at the roofing’s eaves and valleys. Saturated felt is used as an underlayment in between the roofing system deck and the roof material. Specialty-eaves flashings are typically used in climates where ice dams and water backups prevail.
BUR is utilized on flat and low-sloped roofing systems and consists of several layers of bitumen and ply sheets. Components of a BUR system include the roof deck, a vapor retarder, insulation, membrane, and surfacing material. A modified bitumen-membrane assembly includes continuous plies of saturated felts, covered felts, materials or mats in between which alternate layers of bitumen are used, either appeared or unsurfaced.
