FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Being one of their biggest expenditures people typically have a lotof questions prior to makingany decisions , listed here are some of the most commonplace ones…

Unless you’re a certified roofing professional, the majority of roofing tasks shouldn’t be carried out yourself. Additionally always remember that a large number of manufacturers of products utilized in the roof repair will not warranty those items unless a certified professional performs the job. The other thing to bear in mind is that working on a roof can be very risky, so is it really worth endangering your health so you can save money?

It would be great if we were able to give you a simple answer to this question! However there really is no one answer that fits all for each question like that. There are a lot of unique products readily available and each has its own benefits and faults. To determine which is the right roof for you, you should have a contractor come and check out your roof and they can make suggestions based on what they see, your roof design, the climate you live in and, of course, your budget.

It really depends upon the type of roof you currently have and exactly what evaluations are required. Also, keep in mind that we will be working outside in the elements, so if the weather isn’t good and we cannot work on particular days then this will definitely add more time to the job. A small home may take about a week or so, whereas larger industrial jobs might be anything from a few weeks to a few months. Just be sure your roofing company keeps you updated and you should be fine.

Since your roof is continuously exposed to the weather, it means your roof is going to break down with time. The rate at which it breaks down will depend on a number of factors. Those include; the grade of the initial materials that were used along with the craftsmanship, the level of abuse it will have to take from the elements, how well the roof is preserved and the type of roof. Most roofing professionals will estimate around 20 years for a well-built and well-maintained roof, but obviously that can never be guaranteed due to the above variables. Our suggestion is to always keep your roof well maintained and get regular roof inspections to make sure it lasts as long as possible.

You should not ever pressure-wash your roof, as you take the risk of removing any protective minerals that have been included to give protection from the weather. Furthermore, you should steer clear of chlorine-based bleach cleaners as they could also lower the life of your roof. When you talk to your roof cleaning expert, ask them to use an EPA-approved algaecide/fungicide to wash your roof. That will eliminate the aesthetically displeasing algae and discoloration without destroying the tile or shingles.

Some roofing system leaks are difficult to locate. In some cases the water appears at a ceiling area remote from the leakage. If your ceiling has a plastic vapor barrier between the drywall and the attic insulation, press the insulation aside and look for circulation spots on the plastic. Often water runs to openings in the vapor barrier, such as at ceiling light.

Moisture that escapes into the cold attic from the spaces below typically condenses on cold nails. In some cases you can spot this if you go up into your attic on a cold night. The nails will look white because they’re frosted. When the attic warms up a bit throughout the day, the frost melts and drips, then the nails frost up during the night again and so on.
