FAQs

Being one of their most significant expenditures people usually have a ton of questions prior to coming to a conclusion , below are a number of the most commonplace ones…

Unless you are a certified roofing professional, the majority of roofing jobs shouldn’t be carried out yourself. In addition keep in mind that a lot of manufacturers of products used in the repair of the roof will not warranty those products unless a licensed roofing contractor performs the task. Something else to always remember is that working on a roof can be very dangerous, so is it really worth risking your health so you can save money?

It would be really good if we could give you a simple answer to that question! But there really is no one answer fits all for every question like that. There are a lot of different products readily available and each one will have its own merits and faults. To figure out which is the ideal roof for you, you should have a contractor come and check out your roof and they can make suggestions based on what they find, your roof design, the environment you live in and, of course, your budget.

It definitely is dependent on the type of roof and what surveys are needed. Also, bear in mind that we’re working outdoors in the elements, so if the weather isn’t good and we just can’t work on certain days then this will certainly add time to the task. A small home could take around a week or so, whereas much larger industrial projects might be anything from several weeks to a number of months. Just ensure that your roofing contractor keeps you updated and you should be fine.

Given that your roof is constantly exposed to the outside elements, it means your roof is going to deteriorate gradually. The speed at which it deteriorates will depend on a range of variables. These include; the grade of the original components that were used and the workmanship, the level of abuse it will have to take from the elements, how well the roof is preserved and the type of roof. Most roofing contractors will quote around 20 years for a well-built and well-maintained roof, but that can never be guaranteed as a result of the above variables. Our advice is to always keep your roof well maintained and get regular roof inspections to make sure it lasts as long as possible.

You should never pressure wash your roof, as you take the risk of getting rid of any covering materials that have been added to offer cover from the weather. In addition, you should avoid chlorine-based bleach cleaning products since they can easily also cut down the life-span of your roof. When you speak to your roof cleaning specialist, ask them to use an EPA-approved algaecide/fungicide to clean your roof. This will clear away the undesirable algae and staining without ruining the tile or shingles.

More About Maywood, IL

Maywood is a village in Proviso Township, Cook County, Illinois, United States in the Chicago metropolitan area. It was founded on April 6, 1869,[3] and organized October 22, 1881.[4] The population was 24,090 at the 2010 United States Census.[5]

There was limited European-American settlement in the Maywood area before a railroad was built after the American Civil War, with the rise of Chicago. But at least one house in what became Maywood was used as a station on the Underground Railroad, to aid refugee African-American slaves in escaping to freedom in the North. Some settled in the free state of Illinois; others went on to Canada, seeking further distance from American slavery. The site of the former house has been nationally commemorated. The plaque is located at today’s Lake Street and the Des Plaines River bridge.[6]

House owner upkeep consists of cleaning the leaves and particles from the roofing system’s valleys and gutters. Particles in the valleys can cause water to wick under the shingles and trigger damage to the interior of the roofing system. Stopped up gutter can trigger water to stream back under the shingles on the eaves and cause damage, despite the roofing product.

The very best way to maintain your roofing system is to remain off it. Likewise, seasonal modifications in the weather condition are usually the most harmful forces. A dripping roofing can damage ceilings, walls and furnishings. To secure buildings and their contents from water damage, roofers repair work and set up roofings made of tar or asphalt and gravel; rubber or thermoplastic; metal; or shingles made from asphalt, slate, fiberglass, wood, tile, or other product.

There are 2 types of roofings: flat and pitched (sloped). A lot of commercial, commercial and apartment have flat or a little sloping roofings. The majority of houses have pitched roofs. Some roofing professionals work on both types; others specialize. A lot of flat roofs are covered with several layers of products. Roofing contractors initially put a layer of insulation on the roofing system deck.

Next, they install partially overlapping layers of roofing felt, a fabric saturated in bitumen, over the surface. Roofing contractors utilize a mop to spread out hot bitumen over the surface area and under the next layer. This seals the joints and makes the surface area watertight. Roofers duplicate these actions to develop up the preferred variety of layers, called plies. To apply shingles, roofing professionals initially lay, cut, and tack 3-foot strips of roof felt lengthwise over the whole roofing system. Then, beginning with the bottom edge, they staple or nail overlapping rows of shingles to the roofing. Employees step and cut the felt and shingles to fit converging roofing system surfaces and to fit around vent pipes and chimneys.

Lastly, roofing contractors cover exposed nailheads with roofing cement or caulking to prevent water leakage. Roofing contractors who use tile, metal shingles or shakes follow a similar procedure. Some roofers likewise water-proof and damp-proof masonry and concrete walls and floors. To prepare surfaces for waterproofing, they hammer and chisel away rough areas, or eliminate them with a rubbing brick, before using a coat of liquid waterproofing compound.

When damp-proofing, they normally spray a bitumen-based covering on interior or outside surfaces. Asphalt is the most typically used roofing material. Asphalt products consist of shingles, roll-roofing, built-up roofing, and customized bitumen membranes. Asphalt shingles are normally the most common and cost-effective choice for property roofing. They can be found in a range of colors, shapes and textures.

Laminated shingles consist of more than one layer of tabs to provide extra density. Interlocking shingles are used to provide greater wind resistance. And big specific shingles typically come in rectangular and hexagonal shapes. Roll-roofing items are typically used in property applications, primarily for underlayments and flashings. They can be found in 4 different types of product: smooth-surfaced, saturated felt, specialty-eaves flashings, and mineral-surfaced.

Smooth-surfaced products are utilized primarily as flashing to seal the roofing at crossways and protrusions, and for providing additional deck defense at the roofing system’s eaves and valleys. Saturated felt is used as an underlayment between the roofing system deck and the roofing material. Specialty-eaves flashings are usually utilized in environments where ice dams and water backups prevail.

BUR is used on flat and low-sloped roofing systems and consists of several layers of bitumen and ply sheets. Parts of a BUR system consist of the roof deck, a vapor retarder, insulation, membrane, and surfacing product. A modified bitumen-membrane assembly consists of constant plies of saturated felts, layered felts, fabrics or mats between which alternate layers of bitumen are applied, either surfaced or unsurfaced.
