FAQs

As one of their biggest financial investments people typically have a plenty of questions prior to coming to a conclusion , below are a number of the most common ones…

Unless you’re a certified roofing professional, most roofing tasks really should not be performed yourself. Also always remember that most manufacturers of products utilized in the roof repair won’t warranty those products unless a licensed roofing contractor performs the job. Something else to remember is that working on a roof may be very dangerous, so is it really worth jeopardizing your health so you can save money?

It would be great if we were able to give you a straight forward answer to that question! But there actually is no single answer fits all for each question like that. There are many different products available and each and every one will have its own benefits and disadvantages. To figure out which is the right roof for you, you should have an expert come and take a look at your roof and they can make recommendations according to what they find, your roof design, the climate you reside in and, of course, your budget.

It definitely depends on the type of roof you currently have and what inspections are required. Also, remember that we will be working outdoors in the elements, so if the weather is bad and we just can’t work on a number of days then this will add more time to the task. A smaller home might take around a week or so, while much larger industrial jobs can be anything from several weeks to a few months. Just ensure that your roofing contractor keeps you updated and you should be fine.

Considering that your roof is consistently subjected to the weather, this means your roof is will diminish gradually. The rate at which it deteriorates will be dependent on a number of variables. Those include; the quality of the initial components used and the craftsmanship, the level of abuse it has to take from the elements, how well the roof is taken care of and the design of the roof. Most roofing contractors will quote around 20 years for a well-built and well-maintained roof, but obviously that can never be promised as a result of the above variables. Our suggestion is to always keep your roof well maintained and get regular inspections to be sure it lasts as long as possible.

You shouldn’t ever pressure-wash your roof, as you take the risk of taking off any covering minerals that have been added to offer protection from the weather. Aside from that, you should stay clear of chlorine-based bleach cleaning products since they could also diminish the life-span of your roof. When you talk to your roof cleaning expert, tell them to use an EPA-approved algaecide/fungicide to wash your roof. This will get rid of the aesthetically displeasing algae and discoloration without destroying the tile or shingles.

More About Berwyn, IL

Berwyn /ˈbɜːrwɪn/ is a suburban city in Cook County, Illinois, coterminous with Berwyn Township, which was formed in 1908 after breaking off from Cicero Township. As of the 2010 census, the city had a total population of 56,657.[3]

Before being settled, the land that is now Berwyn was traversed by Native American trails. The most important trails converged near the Chicago portage, and two significant routes crossed what is today Berwyn. A branch of the Trail to Green Bay crossed Berwyn at what is now Riverside Drive, and the Ottawa Trail spanned the southern end of the city.[4]

The wonderful climate includes a price, however. It can be rough on roofs. Our company prides itself on keeping your industrial roofing and residential roofing in prime condition. If you need a new roofing system, we will install it. If you need repairs, we will do a quality job. We constantly make every effort to improve our ability as property and business roofing contractors.

We provide trust, integrity, quality, and assurance. Lots of business can offer you a roof, but very few can give you the safe sensation that we do. Working with a quality roof business decreases your worry and enables you to concentrate on your work and your family.

Homeowner maintenance consists of cleaning up the leaves and debris from the roof’s valleys and rain gutters. Debris in the valleys can cause water to wick under the shingles and trigger damage to the interior of the roofing system. Clogged up gutter can cause water to recede under the shingles on the eaves and cause damage, no matter the roof product.

The best way to maintain your roof is to remain off it. Likewise, seasonal changes in the weather are normally the most harmful forces. A leaking roof can harm ceilings, walls and home furnishings. To secure buildings and their contents from water damage, roofers repair work and install roofing systems made from tar or asphalt and gravel; rubber or thermoplastic; metal; or shingles made from asphalt, slate, fiberglass, wood, tile, or other material.

There are two types of roofing systems: flat and pitched (sloped). Many industrial, commercial and apartment structures have flat or a little sloping roofs. Most houses have actually pitched roofings. Some roofing contractors deal with both types; others specialize. A lot of flat roofings are covered with a number of layers of products. Roofers initially put a layer of insulation on the roofing system deck.

Next, they set up partly overlapping layers of roofing felt, a material saturated in bitumen, over the surface. Roofing professionals utilize a mop to spread hot bitumen over the surface area and under the next layer. This seals the seams and makes the surface area watertight. Roofers duplicate these actions to develop the wanted number of layers, called plies. To use shingles, roofing contractors initially lay, cut, and tack 3-foot strips of roof felt lengthwise over the whole roofing system. Then, beginning with the bottom edge, they staple or nail overlapping rows of shingles to the roofing system. Employees step and cut the felt and shingles to fit converging roof surface areas and to fit around vent pipelines and chimneys.

Lastly, roofing contractors cover exposed nailheads with roofing cement or caulking to avoid water leak. Roofers who use tile, metal shingles or shakes follow a comparable procedure. Some roofers also water-proof and damp-proof masonry and concrete walls and floorings. To prepare surfaces for waterproofing, they hammer and chisel away rough spots, or eliminate them with a rubbing brick, before applying a coat of liquid waterproofing compound.

When damp-proofing, they normally spray a bitumen-based finish on interior or exterior surfaces. Asphalt is the most typically used roofing material. Asphalt products consist of shingles, roll-roofing, built-up roof, and customized bitumen membranes. Asphalt shingles are normally the most common and economical option for domestic roof. They are available in a variety of colors, shapes and textures.

Laminated shingles include more than one layer of tabs to supply extra thickness. Interlocking shingles are used to supply greater wind resistance. And big individual shingles typically can be found in rectangle-shaped and hexagonal shapes. Roll-roofing items are typically utilized in residential applications, mostly for underlayments and flashings. They come in four various kinds of product: smooth-surfaced, saturated felt, specialty-eaves flashings, and mineral-surfaced.

Smooth-surfaced products are used primarily as flashing to seal the roof at crossways and protrusions, and for supplying extra deck security at the roof’s eaves and valleys. Saturated felt is utilized as an underlayment between the roof deck and the roofing material. Specialty-eaves flashings are generally used in environments where ice dams and water backups prevail.

BUR is utilized on flat and low-sloped roofing systems and includes multiple layers of bitumen and ply sheets. Components of a BUR system include the roofing system deck, a vapor retarder, insulation, membrane, and surfacing product. A modified bitumen-membrane assembly includes continuous plies of saturated felts, coated felts, materials or mats in between which alternate layers of bitumen are used, either surfaced or unsurfaced.
