FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
As one of their largest investments people usually have a number of questions before coming to a conclusion , below are some of the most commonplace ones…
Unless you are a certified contractor, the majority of roofing jobs should not be performed yourself. Also bear in mind that a large number of manufacturers of products used in the roof repair won’t warranty those products unless a licensed roofing contractor carries out the job. The other thing to remember is that working on a roof can be very risky, so is it really worth risking your health so you can save money?
It would be great if we were able to give you a straight forward response to that question! But there actually is no one answer that fits all for each question like that. There are many different products readily available and each will have its own benefits and faults. To figure out which is the right roof for you, you really should have an expert come and take a look at your roof and they can make recommendations according to what they observe, the type of roof you have, the environment you live in and, of course, your budget.
It definitely depends on the type of roof you currently have and what inspections are mandated. Also, remember that we’re working outdoors in the elements, so if the weather is bad and we cannot work on a number of days then this will definitely add more time to the job. A smaller home could take about a week or so, while more substantial industrial projects could be anything from several weeks to a number of months. Just be sure your roofing contractor keeps you updated and you should be fine.
Since your roof is continually subjected to the weather, this means your roof is will deteriorate gradually. The pace at which it deteriorates will depend upon a variety of variables. Those include; the quality of the initial components that were used and the workmanship, the amount of abuse it has to take from the weather, how well the roof is maintained and the type of roof. Most roofing professionals will quote around 20 years for a well-built and properly maintained roof, but that can never be promised as a result of the above factors. Our advice is to always keep your roof well maintained and get regular checkups to make sure it lasts as long as possible.
You should never pressure wash your roof, as you run the risk of removing any protective materials that have been added to provide protection from the weather. Also, you really should keep away from chlorine-based bleach cleaners as they can also reduce the life of your roof. When you speak to your roof cleaning specialist, tell them to use an EPA-approved algaecide/fungicide to clean your roof. This will clear away the unsightly algae and staining without ruining the tile or shingles.

Property owner maintenance consists of cleaning the leaves and debris from the roof’s valleys and gutters. Particles in the valleys can cause water to wick under the shingles and cause damage to the interior of the roofing system. Blocked rain gutters can cause water to flow back under the shingles on the eaves and trigger damage, despite the roof material.
The very best way to maintain your roofing system is to stay off it. Likewise, seasonal changes in the weather condition are generally the most harmful forces. A leaking roofing system can harm ceilings, walls and furnishings. To safeguard structures and their contents from water damage, roofing contractors repair and set up roofings made from tar or asphalt and gravel; rubber or thermoplastic; metal; or shingles made from asphalt, slate, fiberglass, wood, tile, or other material.
There are 2 types of roofing systems: flat and pitched (sloped). A lot of industrial, industrial and apartment have flat or slightly sloping roofs. A lot of homes have actually pitched roofing systems. Some roofing contractors deal with both types; others specialize. A lot of flat roofings are covered with a number of layers of materials. Roofing professionals first put a layer of insulation on the roof deck.
Next, they set up partially overlapping layers of roofing felt, a fabric saturated in bitumen, over the surface area. Roofing contractors use a mop to spread out hot bitumen over the surface and under the next layer. This seals the joints and makes the surface watertight. Roofing contractors duplicate these steps to construct up the desired number of layers, called plies. To use shingles, roofers initially lay, cut, and tack 3-foot strips of roof felt lengthwise over the entire roofing system. Then, beginning with the bottom edge, they staple or nail overlapping rows of shingles to the roof. Workers measure and cut the felt and shingles to fit converging roofing surfaces and to fit around vent pipes and chimneys.
Finally, roofing contractors cover exposed nailheads with roof cement or caulking to avoid water leak. Roofing contractors who use tile, metal shingles or shakes follow a similar procedure. Some roofing professionals also water-proof and damp-proof masonry and concrete walls and floors. To prepare surfaces for waterproofing, they hammer and chisel away rough spots, or remove them with a rubbing brick, before using a coat of liquid waterproofing substance.
When damp-proofing, they usually spray a bitumen-based finish on interior or exterior surface areas. Asphalt is the most typically used roofing product. Asphalt products consist of shingles, roll-roofing, built-up roof, and modified bitumen membranes. Asphalt shingles are normally the most typical and affordable option for property roofing. They come in a variety of colors, shapes and textures.
Laminated shingles consist of more than one layer of tabs to supply extra thickness. Interlocking shingles are used to provide higher wind resistance. And large private shingles usually can be found in rectangle-shaped and hexagonal shapes. Roll-roofing items are usually utilized in domestic applications, mostly for underlayments and flashings. They can be found in four different types of product: smooth-surfaced, saturated felt, specialty-eaves flashings, and mineral-surfaced.
Smooth-surfaced products are utilized mainly as flashing to seal the roofing at intersections and protrusions, and for offering extra deck protection at the roofing’s eaves and valleys. Saturated felt is utilized as an underlayment between the roof deck and the roof product. Specialty-eaves flashings are generally utilized in environments where ice dams and water backups prevail.
BUR is utilized on flat and low-sloped roofs and consists of multiple layers of bitumen and ply sheets. Parts of a BUR system consist of the roofing deck, a vapor retarder, insulation, membrane, and appearing product. A customized bitumen-membrane assembly consists of continuous plies of saturated felts, coated felts, fabrics or mats between which alternate layers of bitumen are applied, either surfaced or unsurfaced.
