FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Being one of their most significant financial investments people always have a number of questions before coming to a conclusion , below are some of the more commonplace ones…

Unless you are a trained contractor, the majority of roofing jobs should not be performed yourself. Also keep in mind that most manufacturers of products utilized in the roof repair won’t warranty those products unless a licensed professional performs the work. The other thing to bear in mind is that working on a roof could be very hazardous, so is it really worth jeopardizing your health for you to save money?

It would be fantastic if we were able to give you a simple response to this question! But there actually is no single answer fits all for each question like that. There are many unique products available and each will have its own merits and disadvantages. To know which is the right roof for you, you really should have an expert come and check out your roof and they can make recommendations based on what they find, your roof design, the climate you live in and, of course, your budget.

It definitely is dependent on the kind of roof and what inspections are needed. Also, keep in mind that we will be working outside in the elements, so if the weather is bad and we just can’t work on a number of days then this will certainly add more time to the task. A smaller home might take about a week or so, while much larger industrial projects might be anything from a few weeks to a number of months. Just see to it your roofing contractor keeps you updated and you should be fine.

Since your roof is constantly subjected to the outside elements, this means your roof is will diminish over time. The pace at which it deteriorates will be dependent on a number of factors. Those include; the quality of the original components that were used and the workmanship, the level of abuse it has to take from the weather, how well the roof is preserved and the design of the roof. Most roofing professionals will quote around 20 years for a well-built and properly maintained roof, but obviously that can never be guaranteed due to the above variables. Our advice is to always keep your roof well maintained and get regular inspections to be sure it lasts as long as possible.

You should never pressure wash your roof, as you run the risk of washing away any covering materials that have been included to give shielding from the elements. On top of that, you really should avoid chlorine-based bleach cleaners since they may also decrease the life of your roof. When you speak to your roof cleaning professional, ask them to use an EPA-approved algaecide/fungicide to wash your roof. That will eliminate the unattractive algae and yellowing without destroying the tile or shingles.

More About Tijeras, NM

Tijeras is a village in Bernalillo County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 541 at the 2010 census.[2] It is part of the Albuquerque metropolitan area.

The Tijeras Pueblo Archaeological Site is located in Tijeras at 35° 04′ 30″ N, 106° 23′ 01.″ The site was occupied by Ancestral Pueblo people from about 1313 CE to 1425 CE. In the first phase of its occupation the Tijeras Pueblo had about 200 rooms in terraced buildings arranged in a “U” shape with a large ceremonial Kiva at the center. The pueblo was partially abandoned after about 1360 but rebuilding began about 1390, although the pueblo never regained its previous size. It was abandoned about 1425. The reasons for the abandonment of the pueblo are unknown, although it may have been because of drought and water shortages.[3]

Property owner upkeep consists of cleaning up the leaves and particles from the roofing’s valleys and seamless gutters. Particles in the valleys can cause water to wick under the shingles and trigger damage to the interior of the roofing system. Stopped up gutter can cause water to recede under the shingles on the eaves and cause damage, despite the roof product.

The very best method to preserve your roof is to remain off it. Likewise, seasonal modifications in the weather are generally the most damaging forces. A dripping roofing system can harm ceilings, walls and furnishings. To protect structures and their contents from water damage, roofing contractors repair and set up roofs made of tar or asphalt and gravel; rubber or thermoplastic; metal; or shingles made from asphalt, slate, fiberglass, wood, tile, or other product.

There are 2 types of roofings: flat and pitched (sloped). Most commercial, industrial and apartment have flat or slightly sloping roofings. The majority of houses have actually pitched roofings. Some roofing professionals deal with both types; others specialize. Many flat roofing systems are covered with a number of layers of materials. Roofing professionals first put a layer of insulation on the roofing deck.

Next, they set up partly overlapping layers of roof felt, a material saturated in bitumen, over the surface. Roofing professionals utilize a mop to spread out hot bitumen over the surface and under the next layer. This seals the seams and makes the surface area watertight. Roofers repeat these steps to develop the desired number of layers, called plies. To apply shingles, roofing professionals first lay, cut, and tack 3-foot strips of roof felt lengthwise over the entire roofing. Then, beginning from the bottom edge, they staple or nail overlapping rows of shingles to the roofing system. Workers procedure and cut the felt and shingles to fit intersecting roof surfaces and to fit around vent pipes and chimneys.

Finally, roofers cover exposed nailheads with roof cement or caulking to avoid water leakage. Roofing professionals who utilize tile, metal shingles or shakes follow a similar process. Some roofing contractors likewise water-proof and damp-proof masonry and concrete walls and floors. To prepare surface areas for waterproofing, they hammer and chisel away rough spots, or remove them with a rubbing brick, prior to applying a coat of liquid waterproofing substance.

When damp-proofing, they usually spray a bitumen-based finishing on interior or exterior surface areas. Asphalt is the most typically utilized roofing product. Asphalt items include shingles, roll-roofing, built-up roof, and modified bitumen membranes. Asphalt shingles are typically the most common and affordable choice for domestic roofing. They are available in a variety of colors, shapes and textures.

Laminated shingles include more than one layer of tabs to offer extra thickness. Interlocking shingles are used to supply greater wind resistance. And large private shingles usually come in rectangle-shaped and hexagonal shapes. Roll-roofing products are usually used in property applications, mainly for underlayments and flashings. They come in 4 different types of material: smooth-surfaced, saturated felt, specialty-eaves flashings, and mineral-surfaced.

Smooth-surfaced items are utilized mostly as flashing to seal the roofing system at intersections and protrusions, and for supplying extra deck security at the roofing system’s eaves and valleys. Saturated felt is used as an underlayment in between the roofing system deck and the roofing product. Specialty-eaves flashings are generally used in climates where ice dams and water backups prevail.

BUR is utilized on flat and low-sloped roofs and includes multiple layers of bitumen and ply sheets. Elements of a BUR system include the roofing system deck, a vapor retarder, insulation, membrane, and emerging material. A modified bitumen-membrane assembly consists of constant plies of saturated felts, coated felts, fabrics or mats between which alternate layers of bitumen are used, either emerged or unsurfaced.
