Communicating Air Handlers DS-AH092101
Units Involved: Communicating Air Handlers
Date Codes Involved: W4820 through W2721
Details:

In November 2020 we introduced a rolling change where the Air Handler control board firmware, and associated part number was succeeded from part number 47-105415-02, with firmware version AC-AIRH-00-01-19 to part number 47-105415-03 with firmware version AC-AIRH-00-01-20. As of July 16, 2021, (Date code W2721) all units are being produced with 47-105415-04 containing firmware version AC-AIRH-00-01-22.
Please see attached methods of verifying EcoNet® and control board software.
Verifying Control Board Software
This 47-105415-03 control board, containing firmware version AC-AIRH-00-01-20 has been found to have two bugs that cause the following issues:
1. For units equipped with TXV's, the firmware will set a non-critical A115_A EXV Sensor Measurement Error alarm after 3 consecutive cooling calls. This alarm when on a TXV air handler does nothing to prevent operation but will be an annoyance to the homeowner.
2. For units equipped with EXV's, it will drive the valve to a shut position at air handler power up. In a case where the valve arrives closed, or the air handler is powered before brazing, the valve will go shut preventing the flow of nitrogen purging. Operation beyond the initial installation is unaffected.
Recommended Corrective Actions:

For Units already installed in the field

Issue 1:
Replace control board with 47-105415-04 containing firmware version AC-AIRH-00-01-22 available from RPD and Clear alarms. The A115_A EXV Sensor alarm does not apply to Communicating Air Handlers with TXV's. Submit a warranty claim for the control board and $75 allowance using WCN code A115ATXV.

Issue 2:
If system is already in operation, there is no required action.

If system is currently being installed and EEV is found to be closed preventing nitrogen purging, technician may apply voltage to the air handler and install a jumper between R and Y1 for a period of 20 seconds and turn power off to the air handler. This will drive the valve open for nitrogen purging. Once purging and brazing are complete, unit is ready for normal operation and no further action is required.
For Units still in distributor inventory

For communicating air handlers in distributor inventory manufactured between W4820 and W2721, replace control board with 47-105415-04 available from RPD and submit a debit memo including models and serial numbers, along with a claim for $35 per unit with WCN: A115ATXV in the subject and send it to: brian.vinsant@rheem.com
