The Aragonese Pyrenees is the border between the Iberian Peninsula and Europe, a length of 450 kilometers. This is the highest part of the all Pyrenees - France, Spain, Andorra, as the main peaks of the region rise here. This region is famous not only for its good slopes, but also for its many thermal springs, interesting mountain settlements, as well as the parks of Monte Perdido and Ordesa. Excellent infrastructure is characteristic of all local resorts, so tourists love to vacation here. In addition, it is very attractive that the Pyrenees of Aragon are typically bright because they face the south.
Microclimate is very diverse, it all depends on the altitude of the selected resort. In general, there is an intermediate climate between continental and Mediterranean. The highest places are located in the province of Huesca, they are characterized by hot summers, when temperatures can rise up to 40 degrees above zero. In winter it is quite warm there.
There are many places worth seeing in this region. If we talk about architectural monuments, be sure to go to the monastery of San Juan de la Peña, which is built at the foot of the mountain. It looks very unusual. This building was erected in the 11th century, it attracts with its beauty and amazes with how some elements have been preserved over such a long period of time. The capitals are decorated with sculptural images and the themes are taken from the Bible. For example, there is the scene of Adam being cast out of paradise. In this monastery there is the Royal Pantheon, where the remains of kings who have been rulers for five centuries rest.
There is also in the region an unusual church of St. Mary, built on the bank of the river called Cinque. The church is modern, built in the 70s of the last century, it is very large and can accommodate half a thousand people at a time. It is noteworthy that this church was built from what is left of the destroyed buildings of antiquity. Every year the church hosts an organ music festival, as it has an organ with more than 4,000 pipes. In general, a lot of all kinds of cultural events are held here.
It is very interesting to visit the Loarre Castle, which was built at the beginning of the 11th century. It was built with a protective purpose, as it was supposed to defend the city from attacks by Arabs. In the 13th century the castle was completed, there were added defensive walls, which have mainly towers in the form of a semi-circle, but there is also one square tower. Here, too, the walls have decorations associated with stories from the Bible. There is also the church of St. Mary and the ruins of the Watchtower.
A fascinating archaeological site can be called the town of Uncastille, which is proven. It has existed since ancient times. According to scientists, first Celts and Basques, then the Romans lived there. The heyday of the city reached in the 12th century, when many buildings were built. It is worth checking out the local churches, the Jewish quarter, the palace, Sibiran Castle and Town Hall, which dates back to the 10th century.
Have fun at the popular resort of Bakeret where the royal family loves to relax. Moreover, there are 4 discotheques, almost 20 bars and 7 restaurants. The royal family prefers to eat at the restaurant Casa Irene, which is located in the small town of Artis.
The region is home to the Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park. This park is considered the oldest in Aragon. The local nature is striking in its scenic beauty. There are deep gorges and canyons, turbulent rivers, rocks, beautiful waterfalls, and therefore a walk in this park will give a lot of positive emotions. Nearly a thousand and a half species of plants grow on the territory of the park, and there are a lot of reptiles, birds, fish and animals.
Another park is Posets-Maladeta, it provides routes for mountain climbing, but you can also just walk along the hiking trails. Here you will see glaciers, glacial lakes, and waterfalls. The animals and plants that live here are considered rare species.
Of course, first of all the Aragonese Pyrenees attract skiers and climbers. In the park described above, Posets-Maladet, you can take routes for climbers, and of high complexity. In the resort of Bakeira Bereta there are excellent areas for skiing. Here you can ride alone or in groups, you can ride dogsleds and even skydive. Everyone goes to the resort: families with children and beginner skiers, as well as professionals who can appreciate these slopes. Moreover, if you want to learn how to properly stand on the skis, you can take a training course at the school of skiing. For snowboarders there are also heavenly conditions. The slopes are open from December to April, and there are 3 special parks for children.
In Aragonese Pyrenees people come not for shopping after all, here you can, of course, buy souvenirs for yourself and your loved ones and all that you may need on vacation. But the full-fledged shopping is possible in the cities of arrival: Zaragoza or Barcelona.
