Pregnancy week 39 no signs labour

Pregnancy Week by Week guides women through each of the 40 weeks of pregnancy, giving details on developmental milestones in both Mom and Baby, practical advice and words of encouragement.
Your pregnancy is considered full term once you reach the 39th week mark, meaning your baby can arrive any day now [1]. Your baby’s brain is still developing rapidly, already being 30% bigger compared to its size four weeks ago [3]. Being 20 inches (50.8 cm) long, he has already achieved the average newborn length by the 39th week [10]. By this time, your baby’s head is probably engaged in the pelvis, ready for delivery; however, it is also normal for babies to engage only after labor starts.
Your weight gain slows down or ceases altogether in these last few weeks [14] as your baby has now reached the average birth weight and there is more of the baby than amniotic fluid in the womb now. A regular week 39 ultrasound shows your baby look almost exactly as he would on the day of delivery, with fuzzy hair and chubby checks. As mentioned above, at 39 weeks you are considered full term, meaning the labor can begin anytime now. Doctors prefer letting the baby complete his 40 weeks inside the womb so his organs and systems can mature to the utmost measure before he enters the world. Castor oil, raspberry leaf tea [27], evening primrose oil and balsamic vinegar are some of the best known natural measures believed to help induce labor. There's a chance you'll just sudden go into labor a chance you won't start until 41+ weeks. I was 41 weeks and 2 days when I was induced, I know that you want to get the baby out but in my opinion being induced was miserable, I wasn't able to get up and let gravity do the work I was stuck in bed, pitocin is horrible and if your doctor doesn't feel labor is going fast enough they control how much they give you.
I had prelabour signs and they still let me go 42 weeks then delivered naturally a beautiful big baby girl but believe my those 2 weeks were the longest weeks of my life all worth it!! Your baby hasn't grown much in length since last week (he's still around 20 or 21 inches from head to toe) but his weight may be creeping up to 7 ? pounds. You're probably quite familiar with the benefits of a pregnancy pillow, but you'll be downright impressed with the versatility of a nursing pillow. With Braxton Hicks contractions coming on more frequently, it can be difficult to know when labor is beginning.

Early or latent labor (also known as false labor or prelabor) typically brings backache, menstrual-like cramps, diarrhea and a bloody show.
Some partners will become so emotionally involved in the pregnancy that they begin to experience similar symptoms, from morning sickness to weight gain. According to a study done by The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, babies born after week 39 have significantly lesser chances of developing any problems with breathing, temperature control and feeding as well as complications like cerebral palsy and sepsis [2]. During these last few weeks, the lungs are manufacturing surfactant, the chemical substance that makes sure the baby’s air sacs do not stick together as he takes his first breath. After week 37, the baby starts to move down your pelvis, settling in the proper head down birth position. A cesarean section might be scheduled for the 39th week, in cases where the ECV fails to turn the baby, due to the risks of life threatening complications associated with delivering a breech baby vaginally [13].
However, dropping of the bump does not necessarily mean that the baby is coming immediately, as most babies engage weeks before the start of labor, especially in first time pregnancies. Pineapples, eggplants and spicy foods are also considered by many to help bring on labor and contractions [28]. Moreover, labor pain can present in different areas, so it's good to know about the three phases of labor and how to tell if what you're experiencing is the normal progression or something to be concerned about. If your early labor contractions bring bright red blood, a fever or speed up and intensify very quickly, you should call your doctor right away. You may be apprehensive about opening the previous scar or going through a long and painful labor only to find out that you need another cesarean.
In fact, the lungs are usually matured enough by this stage to enable your baby to breathe on his own without any respiratory assistance if he was born this week [7]. Having a complication like preeclampsia or gestational diabetes, or developing an infectious condition that might be harmful for the baby are some of the reasons for inducing labor [26]. The weight of pregnancy is impossible to ignore now, and you've gone through most of the symptoms you could possibly experience.
There's a good chance that your cervix will start to dilate this week (perhaps it already has softened and effaced), and an internal exam could reveal that labor might be right around the corner. If early labor comes on in the middle of the night, try to relax and get as much sleep as you can -- you'll need all your energy for the next phase, known as active labor, which is generally shorter than the first phase but will be more uncomfortable.

Sometimes labor complications cannot be predicted, and since your baby is still depending on your body for oxygen, signs of distress should never be taken lightly. If you experienced any sympathy pains in the earlier stages of pregnancy, there's a chance that you could also experience some disconcerting pain and anxiety during delivery. The drastic increase in support for VBAC is at least partly due to the fact that cesarean incisions are made differently nowadays: you were probably given a low transverse incision instead of a vertical incision, and that means that there is far less chance of your uterus rupturing during labor and delivery. Other causes may include having too little amniotic fluid, breaking your water long before the labor starts as well as other issues like kidney stones. I really don't want to go past 40 weeks ( so done w being huge) Many of my friends have said they had pre-labor symptoms for almost 2 weeks before they delivered.
Your past the 37 week mark I don't see why your doctor won't give you options yet or just schedule you to be induced! Between pressure on your perineum, breathlessness and fatigue, it's not unusual to feel irritated, even a little glum in these last weeks as you wait for your baby to make her appearance, but do try to stay calm, relaxed and focused on the finish line. On the other hand, labor is one of the most unpredictable experiences in life, so don't hold your breath.
The third phase is transitional labor, and although the pain and anticipation will intensify, you're not quite ready to start pushing.
In some cases, a very short labor can lead to problems for you and your baby and your doctor and midwife may need to take measures to slow down your progression. Now looking back I realize I was having mild contractions for a couple weeks before I went into labor. Let your loved ones help you out in these last days of pregnancy while your mind and body are devoted to labor and delivery. You may have to wait another week or two, even if you lose your mucus plug or your water breaks this week.
