Pregnancy risk in older women

It showed that older women tended to drink more often during pregnancy than younger counterparts, putting their children at greater risk of foetal alcohol disorders. By the age of seven, children born to mothers who drank heavily during pregnancy had more attention problems than those who didn't drink.
The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence advises women to avoid alcohol-in the first three months of pregnancy.

Drinking in pregnancy has also been linked to miscarriages, still and premature births, low birth weight and birth defects.
Women are catching them up, and copying the loud and aggressive behaviour increasingly seen in town centres.
One in five young women is drinking more than 20 units on a typical night out  -  equivalent to 2.2 bottles or ten glasses of wine.
