We spoke to Professor Geeta Nargund, Medical Director at Create Health, to find out all you need to know about getting pregnant after 40 so you can be as prepared as you need. Not to paint a bleak picture but naturally risks are heightened in pregnancies after the age of 40. But there is no denying that the chances of getting pregnant naturally after the age of 40 significantly drop. It is a known fact that if you are trying to get pregnant after 40, it’s going to be a little harder than if you were younger than 40.

As you get older, the amount of eggs you have decreases and they also stop releasing regularly.
Pregnancy after 40 can trigger pre-existing health problems and might even cause them to get worse. If you get pregnant on your own while in your forties, the risk for miscarriages and stillbirths are even higher. It isn’t impossible to get pregnant when you’re in your 40’s you just have to remember that it isn’t bad to ask your doctor for help. Make sure you have all of the support you need and have the right mindset going into your pregnancy.

It is important to keep in mind that the older you are when trying to get pregnant, the more challenges you’ll have to face.
