Women under 30 years old are incredibly fertile—their ability to get pregnant is at its peak. All reversible birth control methods will help prevent pregnancy while you’re using them, but none have long-lasting effects on your ability to get pregnant when you stop.
Let’s look, for example, at how long it takes for women to get pregnant when they quit the Pill compared to when they quit non-hormonal fertility awareness methods (FAM, sometimes called natural family planning). If you had sex with a new partner and didn’t use a condom, you can still protect yourself by getting tested. The following chart shows the chance of getting pregnant for women who use different methods of birth control.
Immediately after the IMPLANON implant has been placed, you and your health care provider should check that the implant is in your arm by feeling for it.
If you become pregnant while using IMPLANON, you have a slightly higher chance that the pregnancy will be ectopic (occurring outside the womb) than do women who do not use birth control. The use of IMPLANON may also increase your chance of serious blood clots, especially if you have other risk factors, such as smoking.
Having made the exciting decision to start your own family you are sure to be wondering how long it will take to get pregnant.
Most women will be able to conceive naturally and give birth to a healthy baby if they get pregnant at 35 years old.
About half of the women who don't get pregnant in the first year conceive during the following year, giving a pregnancy rate of 92 per cent within two years.
Age aside, there are some steps you can take to give yourself the best possible chance of conceiving and having a healthy pregnancy.

Emergency contraception works before ovulation, but does not appear to work after ovulation has already occurred.
If you've had unprotected sex and are wondering if you at risk of pregnancy, this tool from Planned Parenthood can help. That’s why women who use the Pill but accidentally forget to take it for a few days can get pregnant that month. A big study of over 2,000 women who quit the Pill after using it for an average of seven years found that 21% were pregnant in one month and 79% were pregnant in a year.
Luckily, getting tested for Chlamydia or Gonorrhea is easy and painless: you just pee in a cup.
Each box on the chart contains a list of birth control methods that are similar in effectiveness. If you and your health care provider cannot feel the IMPLANON implant, use a non-hormonal birth control method (such as condoms) until your health care provider confirms that the implant is in place. You know the most fertile years are in your 20s, but want to get a better idea of how age affects your fertility. After 35 years, the proportion of women who experience infertility, miscarriage or a problem with their baby increases. It's thought that your body has to produce more of the hormone that makes you ovulate as you get older. For some women having a multiple pregnancy brings them their dream family in one pregnancy. But if you are over 35, and finding that positive pregnancy test elusive, it is important to seek help sooner rather than later (NCCWCH 2013:6).

Women who stopped using FAM had very similar rates of pregnancy, with 20-25% pregnant in one month and 80% pregnant in a year. Call your health care provider right way if you think you are pregnant or have unexplained lower stomach (abdominal) pain. As women grow older the likelihood of getting pregnant falls while the likelihood of infertility rises. This could prevent fertilisation altogether or increase the likelihood of an ectopic pregnancy (CKS 2007, NCCWCH 2013:129, Utting and Bewley 2011).
In other words, women who quit the Pill get pregnant just as fast as other women, even if they’ve used the Pill for years. There may be a delay of up to two months after stopping the implant and up to six months after stopping the shot, but this varies from person to person, and most women get pregnant soon after stopping these methods.
If you test positive, you can tell a partner he or she should get tested and treated using an anonymous e-card. But it can take time to get a prescription and fill it - the most important thing is to take action as soon as possible after unprotected sex. The longer a woman has an untreated STI like Chlamydia or Gonorrhea, the higher the chance that it will cause scarring in the tubes that connect her ovaries and uterus.
Tell your doctor at least 4 weeks before if you are going to have surgery or will need to be on bed rest, because you have an increased chance of getting blood clots during surgery or bed rest. That scarring makes it difficult for an egg to travel the right direction, and hurts her chances of getting pregnant in the future.
Use a back up birth control method and call your health care provider right away if the implant comes out.
