At BJU Education Group, Inc. d/b/a BJU Press ("we," "us," or "our"), we understand the importance of privacy and are committed to protecting the personal information of our users.  This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and disclose information obtained through our online learning platform (collectively, the "Services"). By using our Services, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
 

This Privacy Policy applies to the collection and use of information in connection with the use of the Services and does not apply to other information collected by BJU Press through other websites, products, or services which do not reference this Privacy Policy specifically.


Collection of Personal Information
 
We collect personal information that provided to us by our users and by educational institutions, school districts, schools, community organizations, libraries, and other entities and their personnel who use the Services pursuant to our Terms of Service or another written agreement.   This personal information includes, without limitation:
 

Information Collected from All Users


Contact details: First name, last name

Account information: Username, password, and other account-related details.
 

Information Collected from Students

 

The name and grade level of the student, as well as any student work, notes, responses to questions, and progress data including bookmarks, highlights, time spent in the Services, game play, assessments, and other assignments.

 

Student information may include data which meets the definition of “education records” as defined under FERPA, that are collected in connection with or created through use of the Services, including any personal information contained therein.

 

Information Collected from Administrators / Educators

 

Educator registration data: Email address, grade level taught, school association, role at school, and username/password.

 

Student roster data: First and last names, grade level, username/password, or other performance data. 

 

Content submitted by a school administrator, teacher, or other educator, such as notes. 
 
 

Information Collected Automatically

 

We use cookies to automatically collect the following information:

 

Services usage data related to the user: How, where (in a general sense based on IP address, not precise), when and for how long a user uses our Services.

 

Services usage data related to the Services: What content the user views, what actions the user takes (for example, clicks, touches, hovers using a mouse), and how the user navigates through our Services. 

 

Device or systems information: Operating system, mobile device type, browser type and version, and referring URL.
 

Our Services do not contain communication tools for students to directly message each other, nor do they enable students to publicly post Student Data.

Sharing of Personal Information
 

We may share your personal information with third parties in the following circumstances:
 
With trusted U.S-based and off-shore service providers who perform services on our behalf, such as platform delivery, payment processing and customer support.


With your consent, or at your direction, such as when you choose to share information with other users on our Services.

In response to legal process or a request for information if we believe disclosure is in accordance with, or required by, any applicable law, regulation, or legal process.

In connection with a sale or transfer of all or part of our assets, in which case your personal information may be disclosed to the buyer or transferee.

 

We may use Google Analytics in some of the Services, to better understand how our Services are used, and how we can improve them.   Any analytics uses of data will contain only aggregate information that does not permit identification of any user, school or school district.

 

We do not track or build personal profiles of students for advertising purposes. 

 

We do not sell or rent personal information or student data.   
 
Protection of Personal Information
 
We take appropriate measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. We use industry-standard encryption, firewalls, and other security measures to safeguard your information. Your data is stored exclusively on servers residing in the U.S.

 
Children's Privacy
 
We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and take the necessary steps to protect the privacy of children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children under 13 without obtaining verifiable parental consent.
 
FERPA Compliance
 
We comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and ensure that the personal information of students is protected in accordance with the requirements of the Act. We will not disclose any personally identifiable information from a student's education records without the written consent of the student's parent or the eligible student, except as permitted under FERPA.
 
CCPA Compliance
 
If you are a California resident, you have certain rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).  We do not sell or share your personal information, as those terms are used in the CCPA. You can request access to or deletion of your personal information or request to opt-out of the sale or sharing of your personal information by contacting us at trovesupport@bjupress.com.   The Personal Information and Student Data described above falls under the following CCPA categories of “personal information”: 

 

Identifiers (educator registration data and Student roster data); 

Internet or electronic activity (Services usage data and device or systems data); 

Education information (educator content, coursework and student content); and 

Inferences (based on coursework and performance data). 

 

Changes to This Privacy Policy
 
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this Privacy Policy.
