Tool was formed in 1989 in a really unserious manner, James Keenan and Adam Jones met through a friend, and after Jones listened to Maynard’s tape from a previous project he was fascinated by his voice and he insisted they start a band. Themes like child abuse were not a taboo for them, as they showed later; there was no taboo for Tool.
After a long battle with censorship for their song “Prison Sex”, in 1995 the band finally went into the studio to records their next album.
After the fame of their second official release and the great appearance on Lollapalooza, Tool got into trouble. Maynard has worked so far on his personal project, Puscifer, and all fans know that he is taking everything on a new level.

Sober (Tool song), and check out Sober (Tool song) on Wikipedia, Youtube, Google News, Google Books, and Twitter on Digplanet. Tool guitarist Adam Jones has stated in an interview that the song is about a friend of the band whose artistic expression only comes out when he is under the influence. The song was recorded by MJK with Tool for the first time in mid-1991 on a demo tape titled 72826. The video's protagonist is a small, humanoid being, who lives and sleeps in a rusty room sparsely decorated with a bed with no mattress and a curtain as a blanket, table and chair inside an abandoned mansion. The climax provides a barrage of imagery and revelations: a figure attached to a wall behind a translucent screen, a sentry of sorts wielding a mobile, robotic cannon and an organic substance flowing through a pipe found in the house. In August 2006, Kirk Hammett, lead guitarist of Metallica, joined Tool on stage while performing and jammed together with the band at a show in Hawaii.
In January 2007, at the Big Day Out music festival in Auckland, New Zealand, System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian collaborated with Tool for an improvisational version of the song.
British electronica duo Orbital sampled the song in "Tootled", from their DVD album The Altogether. You are viewing sample content from Larkwire—the ultimate tool for learning bird sounds.

Their music is something out of this planet, and that is something every fan will tell you. Maynard’s voice that seemed to be raging for hours when they got on stage in Lollapalooza brought them more and more fans, and the band was finally accepted for their greatness.
The album was an instant boom, but with the fans screaming over new album, so were the critics and censorship.
Volcano records filed a lawsuit against them, which unfortunately dragged for some time keeping the band from the studio. But soon after that there was the famous April fool’s day prank that got the most of Tool fans.
There were many speculations saying that it was a false name like the previous one, but it turned out everyone was wrong. As a fan I can only say that I can’t wait until Maynard releases something new, whether that is Tool, A Perfect Circle or Puscifer. Import charges previously quoted are subject to change if you increase you maximum bid amount. The song contains some lyrics from the first verse of "Sober", with the same basic melody, although the melody is considerably faster and has an instrumental chorus.
It debuted in May of that same year and was directed by Fred Stuhr.[3] It was filmed using stop-motion animation, with the characters' models designed by Adam Jones. There is no genre of music to label Tool, yes we can try progressive metal or maybe even industrial, but it’s just art.
Eventually Danny Carey who lived above them joined in on the sessions because he was sorry for them. Although officially, Tool has just 4 albums, there are actually 6, opiate being one of them. After a short search Tool hired their current bassist Justin Chancellor, he was chosen even over Scott Reeder of Kyuss, which many of the fans didn’t understand at the time. Songs like “Stinkfist” were immediately banned from airing, but eventually at the fans request radio stations started playing the uncut version.
In the meanwhile Maynard formed A Perfect Circle and other band members went to do projects of their own, which eventually led fans to believe that the band fell apart. Of course file sharing networks immediately started providing false files with those names. The band released a stamen saying that Maynard has found Jesus and that he will be retiring from the band. The album took Tool even further, songs like “The Pot”, “Vicarious”, “10,000 Days”, “Jambi” and “Right in Two” are still being active on the chart lists and among music videos played on major networks.

It was the first of Tool's videos to be made in stop motion, the earlier promo video for "Hush" being live action and featuring all four band members. Its contents are kept hidden for the majority of the video's duration, but it seems whatever it is has had adverse mind altering effects - there are repeated shots of the humanoid levitating in his chair, and his head and arm vibrating wildly.

Tool uses every single bit of music they get their hands on to come up with something new that will live for years. Not with grunge and alternative being the mainstream, everyone wondered where they came from.
But Chancellor’s contribution to the band is more than obvious; the sound he made together with them is something that went beyond limits. Nobody knows when the new album will be released, but there is news that after 5 years Tool is currently in a studio recording their new album, which they promised will be out, but when, no one knows.
However, brief flashes of the musicians can be seen near the beginning, as well as a live-action figure twitching and vibrating violently. While experiencing these effects, the figure ventures through his living quarters and its many corridors. Every sound they make is unique, their head breaking solos, the screeching noises and mind-blowing videos are all part of their mystic.
It wasn’t very long until they had their first gig, and just after a few of their performances record companies started with offers. But songs like “Hush” and the video that came with it already brought Tool thousands of fans. Songs like “H”, “Forty six & 2”, “Hooker With a Penis” and “Push it” along with already famous “Stinkfist” immediately became hits. We all know what happened afterwards with those file sharing websites, Tool provoked them, and they fell for it. Tool started another long wait for the new album, Maynard continued to work with APC and other members of the band continued with their own projects. Songs like “Opiate” and live version of “Jerk-Off” promised, what looked at that moment, as a new metal wave that nobody saw coming. Tool showed from the start that they are not just a usual band; their music grew into something new, and their videos and songs like “Prison Sex,” “Sober” and “Bottom” had specific meaning to them that most people at the time didn’t take very good.
That album also had a hidden track that got many DJ’s fired; the title of that track was “Maynard’s Dick”.
Aside from all that, the new album was something miraculous, the bass got stronger, the drums went to the state of hypnosis and the songs lasted for more then 10 minutes.
But, unlike the previous time, the band reassured their fans that there will be a new album. That got most of their songs banned from radios stations, and their first video release “Parabola” was aired only a few times in the beginning.
Those who didn’t hear of Tool certainly heard of them once the band started touring with Rage Against the Machine.
Of course all of that changed afterwards, the new album was the greatest band success ever.
