At the northeast corner of Fair and Middle street was the home of Captain Peter LeBreton. This home barely escaped the flames of the great 1811 fire. Fortunes were lost or preserved by virtue of the wind's direction. Torn down in the mid 20th century, today it is a new development of homes. Proceed to the end of Fair Street, turn left on Water Street, and stop in front of the granite building - the U.S. Custom House.
