Have you tried Probiotics?  If not would you consider trying them?  What are your thoughts? Filed Under: Nutrition About Toni ChurchMy name is Toni and I am a mother, wife, runner, blogger and RN originally from Long Island.
I’ve never tried probiotics before…interesting to hear what a difference they make for you!
I love probiotics and do believe in their healing abilities, glad to hear your symptoms are gone! All yogurts by definition contain active live cultures, and nearly all have quantities of probiotics to be of some benefit to your health.
Studies have shown that consuming 200g of Activia yogurt daily provided sufficient quantities of probiotics to significantly reduce the number of unhealthy bacteria in your mouth and decrease their acid production.
Most yogurts do not control for quantities of specific types of live cultures, but are still good for your oral health even if we can’t be sure about the exact numbers of specific probiotic strains. Okra helps prevent constipation with its high contents of dietary fiber.  If you have tried other vegetables and still have toilet problem, you should eat okra instead. Protein and oil contained in the seeds serves as the source of first-rate vegetable protein.
Buy okra which are smaller size, not longer than 3 inches if possible.  The big one taste bitter. Another tips is if you were to stir fry it, try not to put water as it becomes sticky when in touch with liquid. Lady finger with the tomato and onion gives a great texture and taste, it is my favorate recipe, and i love this so much that i eat 3-4 times in a week, my mother use to cook the best dish with lady finger with curd. When I was dating Even Steven in college, he used to eat a giant dill pickle every single night on the way home from the bars. Pickle juice is full of the exact electrolytes that our bodies need, and the probiotics exactly match what our guts need.
Turns out Even Steven’s nightly pickle was helping with a possible hangover the next morning.
Experts are saying that a slug of pickle juice before exercising or before a big tennis match can actually improve your performance. Hi, my name is Anna, and I'm here to share my stories, make you laugh and help you feel better about your crazy, messy, fabulous life.
My dad always swore by pickle juice…but I am not telling him about this bc for years I was calling him crazy.
I live in NW Iowa and when football starts here in August it can sometimes be sweltering out there. Kefir is a product very similar to yogurt; it is usually made from milk but can be made with other liquids such as coconut milk or water. Kombucha tea is produced by fermenting sweet black tea with a flat culture of bacteria and yeasts known as the kombucha mushroom. Do You Really Need Vitamin and Mineral Supplements for Good Health Or Are They Just a Waste of Money?
As a natural health company believing in the power of natural cures and remedies, we get questions about the validity, effectiveness and necessity of vitamins all the time. Should I take a multivitamin or just a couple of the important individual vitamins like vitamin C, vitamin E, or folic acid?
So with all the emphasis, claims and  hype about vitamin and mineral supplements…..Are they really necessary for optimal health?
If you are currently eating a perfectly balanced and healthy diet, then you may not need a daily vitamin. One more thing, some vitamin and mineral supplements are made with synthetic compounds that aren’t readily digested and absorbed, and might even be detrimental to your body. Did humans thrive for tens of thousands of years to be amazing creatures by popping an artificially created vitamin? It is easy to tell we now have a longer life expectancy compared to history – and I am thankful for that! So, let us get right to some answers as to why I contend that vitamin and mineral supplements are sometimes more dangerous to health than beneficial.
But if it far too easy to eat a diet that is full of processed foods, rather than a diet  full of variety and high quality foods. But, it is much harder to take in excess quantities of fat soluble vitamins through natural foods. For example, you would have to consume exorbitant quantities of liver and other organ meats to absorb too much Vitamin A and D.
Believe it or not, there are even some incidences of overdosing on water soluble vitamins, which can be quite toxic. Another problem with vitamin pills is that they often use synthetic versions of vitamins that can actually be unhealthy. The good news is your body will absorb all the nutrients it needs to be healthy, operate efficiently and heal itself when eat a balanced diet. If there is a chance your diet is not 100% optimal and balanced, don’t turn to synthetic vitamin and mineral supplements. Exercise is obviously also very important for losing body fat and building a strong, lean body.
All opinions expressed are my own.  This post consists of my own experience with probiotics, you should always consult your doctor before trying any new supplement. I was diagnosed with IBS about 10 years ago and going dairy-light & taking probiotics has virtually eliminated my symptoms! However, specific strains have been identified in scientific studies as having significant oral health benefits. We can use this information to establish a standard dosage for probiotic yogurts at roughly 4oz or about 2 containers per day.
There are a few yogurts on the market that are produced with specified levels of probiotic bacteria with properties that are beneficial to oral health. The particular probiotic yogurts listed above may provide an additional boost from specific bacteria to help improve the environment in your mouth and make it more supportive of oral health. These are similar to the ones proliferate by the yoghurt in the small intestine and helps biosynthesis of Vitamin B complex.
He would be sitting there eating his pickle, while I inhaled at least one bagel dripping with butter. Alcohol leaves you feeling dehydrated, and pickle juice helps to get your sodium levels back to where they need to be. Mix it up in your next martini or smoothie – or just take a swig straight from the pickle jar.

The football guys have a jug of pickle juice on the sidelines at all games and practices until the weather cools down. We ordered a box during my first pregnancy and they were a huge hit with our friends’ kids when they visited. Kefir, though, has the advantage of being 99 percent lactose free, making it a good option for those who are lactose intolerant. Some common examples that can be purchased at the grocery store include sauerkraut and pickles.
The result is a probiotic-rich beverage with dozens of reported health benefits, including boosting the body's immune system.
Also known as “Immortal Health Elixir” this beverage’s popularity has been steadily increasing over the past couple of years.
There are a lot of sources (media, news and reports) that promote taking a daily multivitamin is absolutely essential to your health.
However, we can all testify that most people DON’T each a perfectly balanced and healthy diet.
A vitamin and mineral supplement might be somewhat beneficial to you if you have a poor diet.  But if you are really serious about getting healthy, then why would your diet be poor? A balanced healthy diet consisting of a large variety of natural unprocessed foods provides a rich array of vitamins, minerals and all of the other nutrients we need to thrive in perfect health. Mega doses of some B vitamins can potentially cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and even liver damage in excessively high doses. For example, the forms of vitamin E that are found in pills can be either d-alpha tocopherol (a natural version) and dl-alpha tocopherol (a synthetic version).
Exercise is also very important for body fat, building a strong body, and keeping lean and trim. All of these have at least 10 billion colony forming units of the designated probiotic bacteria on the label, so we know these particular probiotics are available in adequate numbers. Additionally, kefir is among the richest sources of probiotics available, with three times the amount of probiotics typically found in yogurt. However, you may not get much benefit from commercially fermented vegetables such as sauerkraut, because much of the healthy bacteria and enzymes in these foods have been destroyed.
The American Cancer Society acknowledges the widespread reports of such claims, but says that none are supported by science, and in fact warns that kombucha tea has caused complications and even death in a few cases. Tens of thousands and even hundreds of thousands of humans have lived without the consumption of vitamins and minerals in pill form.
But, I hope that you are one of those that take the health of your body and those of your family more serious than those that apparently don’t care about the physical being.
Also, high doses of Vitamin E can interfere with absorption of beta carotene (a vitamin A precursor) and other fat soluble vitamins.
Thankfully, in most instances, you simply excrete excess water soluble vitamins in your urine. First of all, the bioavailability of synthetic vitamin E is much lower than natural vitamin E.
If you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication, or have a medical condition, consult your physician before using this product.
Oz is recommending pickle juice for a variety of issues – but here are just a few pickle juice cures.
Now I’m free of my shame, thank you for giving me this platform to step out of the light of the fridge and into the kitchen. The more different strains of these bacteria, the better, so look for this information on the label and compare brands when possible. It can be purchased in most grocery stores; however, to produce a kefir containing the highest levels of probiotics, raw milk is ideal.
The fermenting process is simple and only requires salt, water, a jar and your choice of vegetables grown in healthy, organic, bacteria-rich soil. Read on to get the down-low on what it is, what it can do for you and how you can get your hands on some! Sure, people might live longer now, but they’re simply living longer while being overweight, crippled with degenerated joints, plagued with heart disease and cancers, and on and on. Have you noticed that your urine will often be a deep yellow color a couple of hours after taking a vitamin that has high doses of vitamins B and C? In addition, I’ve seen many studies and articles that indicated that there could be potential health dangers with taking synthetic vitamin E. For a fully comprehensive nutritional analysis of how to establish a truly healthy diet and a lean body for life, try our recommended book,  The Truth About Six Pack Abs.
Though store-bought yogurt does contain probiotics, some of these bacteria are inevitably destroyed by the pasteurization process. Sure, maybe the human race is not in its worst health from a contagious disease perspective, but we definitely are from a degenerative disease perspective. So when you take a vitamin, most of the water soluble vitamins are simply flushed down the toilet. For a product containing the most live and active cultures, making yogurt at home with raw milk is ideal. Practically speaking, kombucha is a sweetened tea that is fermented with a symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast (often referred to by it’s acronym; SCOBY).
These friendly bacteria and yeast party together during fermentation, producing a blobby disc which resembles a mushroom, hence the not so flattering nickname. The fermentation process yields a nutrient-rich, low-sugar beverage that fans describe as a great alternative to soda. The first known-of scientific research on this beverage was produced back in the first half of the 20th century, and started due to Russian scientists suspecting that the drink (known in Russia as tea kvass) may have been part of the reason why entire regions of the spectacularly large country had very low rates of cancers compared with others. They began a series of experiments and began pinpointing to what exactly it is that’s so beneficial about kombucha. It took until around the 1990s for kombucha to reach the west, and, it’s been taking North-America by storm ever since. Our thanks and appreciation for the kind care and concern provide by [the IBS Treatment Center].
So far, not much research is available but thanks to its rising popularity over the last decades, more papers are slowly starting to emerge. It’s been associated with beneficial effects on a wide array of health-related aspects. What’s more, at only 60 calories per 16 oz bottle, kombucha contains is a much healthier alternative to soft drinks.
That’s because over 90% of its sugar content is used up by the fermentation process (similarly to what happens with sourdough bread or kefir).A Little More About Kombucha’s Health BenefitsDigestion And Gut HealthLet’s start with the most obvious.
Since kombucha is naturally fermented with a living colony of bacteria and yeast, it is considered a probiotic. And, as you should know, probiotics play a beneficial role on many aspects of health, including on digestion, gut health immunity but also mental clarity and mood stability. What’s more, it’s probiotic content can help improve a wide array of aspects related to health.

Antioxidants are good little soldiers to have on your side, as they help you fight a good fight against damage-causing molecules known as free-radicals, helping ward off many different diseases. Check out this article for more antioxidant-rich foods! What you may not know is that kombucha contains an additional powerful antioxidant not found in tea alone. DSL seems to be produced through the fermentation process and scientists believe that it is this particular antioxidant (combined with a good dose of vitamin C also found in the beverage) that give it it’s antioxidant effects.Plus, since it’s fermented, kombucha is more powerful than plain tea.
It’s antioxidant activity has been found to be 100 times higher than vitamin C and 25 times higher than vitamin E.Direct research on the effects of kombucha’s antioxidant properties found kombucha was able to reduce the damage caused by radiation exposure in mice. Read more about the beneficial effects of antioxidants here.Joint PainAs mentioned a little earlier, kombucha contains a good amount of glutaric acid. So, through supporting collagen maintenance, kombucha may also indirectly help reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
Various studies have tested kombucha against compounds known cause injury to the liver such as paracetamol (Tylenol), carbon tetra-chloride, aflatoxin B1, cadmium chloride and TBHP.
The research is promising, but more, particularly on human subjects, is needed before making strong conclusions.EnergyMany proponents of kombucha swear feeling invigorated and more energized once starting to regularly drink it. But, two other credible reasons may be at play.First, kombucha’s energizing effect may be credited to it’s iron content.
Simply, more oxygen = more energy (incidentally, this can also make running those 2 miles on the weekend seem much easier).
So, through contributing to increased iron levels, kombucha can help your body create more energy, keeping you energized.Second, let’s not forget that the main ingredient remains tea, which, although containing less than coffee, remains a source of caffeine. Study results showed that the number of bacterial colonies in the amount decreased after rinsing with kombucha compared to distilled water.
If you chose to buy it, look for an organic variety and scan the label to ensure it doesn’t contain a large amount of sugar. However, at 3-4$ a bottle, it can get pricey pretty fast. So if you’re feeling a little adventurous, it might be worth mentioning that kombucha can be also made at home for a fraction of the cost. How to make it at homeReady to take the leap and attempt making your own homemade version?
Follow this step-by-step guide and you’ll be sipping on the fermented beverage in about two week’s time! But before getting started, here are some important notes:You’ll need a symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast (SCOBY).
It will be needed to make your first batch of tea.The length of the fermentation process will vary depending on the ambient temperature. Fermentation generally takes about 7-12 days (based on moderate temperatures) but be aware that this time may increase in winter and decrease in summer or vary based on where you live.
Just like everyone swears by their spaghetti sauce recipe, fawning over their “family method” that make their version the ultimate best, the story is no different when it comes to kombucha.
Everyone makes it a tad bit differently, and each will give you advice on how to make the best, most healthful version. As long as you generally follow the instruction, there’s room to color outside of the lines. It’s important you chose glass as kombucha tea doesn’t brew well in metal or plastic containers and use of ceramic jars raises the risk of lead poisoning. For those of you that have never touched one, expect something between the consistency of jell-o and flan. Patience is key here, as handling the SCOBY may, at first, take a little getting used to.Once you’re done, cover your glass containers with clean kitchen towels, securing with an elastic band around the mouth.
The kombucha needs oxygen to ferment, so using a towel rather than a lid will allow it to do just that while still keeping insects and other contaminants out. Store away from direct sunlight and let ferment for 7-12 days. On the morning of the 7th day (or 8th, or 9th…depending on the results of the “taste-test” described earlier), remove the SCOBY and set it aside on a plate, pouring back about half a cup of fermented tea mixture over it to keep it moist. Every other batch or so, separate the old SCOBY (also called the mother) from it’s baby (the SCOBY which has grown on top of the old SCOBY).
Pour (pulp-less) fruit juice into the smaller glass jars or bottles you’ll be using to bottle your kombucha.
Aim for about 2.5oz per quart-sized jar and adjust the quantity proportionally for different-sized bottles. Oh, and try not shake as the contents should be bubbly! Of note, some experts warn about the dangers of home-brewing and unpasteurized kombucha, especially if produced in non-sterile conditions as it increases the risk of unfriendly bacteria finding their way into the tea. Commercially-produced kombucha should be safer, but many of its probiotic properties will be lost through the pasteurization process.Although kombucha may help decrease caries, it’s high natural acidity could, at the same time, be harmful to the enamel of your teeth.
To minimize these effects, aim to drink your kombucha all in one sitting instead of sipping on it throughout the day and swish your mouth with clean water afterwards.Due to it’s main ingredient, kombucha does contain some caffeine, and thanks to it’s fermentation process, it may also contain varying levels of alcohol, especially if home-brewed. Pregnant women and individuals particularly sensitive to caffeine or alcohol are advised to err on the safe side by either avoiding kombucha or consuming it in small quantities. As you can see, kombucha may provide you with a variety of advantages when it comes to health and well-being.
