Spanish Rummy is a lively and engaging card game, typically played with two to six players using a standard deck of 52 playing cards, though variations exist. The objective is to be the first player to form specific melds – combinations of cards either in runs (sequences of consecutive cards of the same suit) or sets (three or four cards of the same rank). To begin, the dealer shuffles the deck thoroughly and deals a specific number of cards to each player, often 10 or 11, depending on the variant, face down. After receiving their cards, players take turns drawing either the top card from the face-down discard pile or one additional card directly from the shuffled deck. The goal during their turn is to play any valid melds they have already formed onto the table, typically starting with runs. Cards played to start a meld are placed face up, while subsequent cards in the same meld are added face down. Once a player has played all the cards in their hand, their turn ends. If a player cannot make any valid melds, they must discard one card from their hand onto the discard pile, allowing the next player to begin their turn with the option to draw that discarded card. The game continues in rounds until one player successfully removes all their cards from their hand, declaring "Rummy!" and winning the round.
