Hearts is a popular trick-taking card game, typically played by four players. The simple rules revolve around the goal of avoiding points. Each heart card is worth one point, and the Queen of Spades carries a hefty penalty of 13 points. Players are dealt a hand of 13 cards, and the game progresses through a series of "books" or tricks. On each trick, players must follow the suit led by the first player, if possible; if they don't have that suit, they may play any card. The highest card of the led suit wins the trick, unless a heart or the Queen of Spades is played, in which case these cards take the trick regardless of the lead. The objective is straightforward: prevent others from winning tricks containing hearts or the Queen of Spades, thereby keeping your own score low.
