Rummy is a classic and engaging card game that blends strategy, skill, and a bit of luck. The primary objective is to be the first player to form and discard all of your cards into sets and runs. A 'set' consists of three or four cards of the same rank but different suits (e.g., three 7s of hearts, diamonds, and clubs), while a 'run' is a sequence of three or more cards of the same suit in consecutive rank order (e.g., 4, 5, 6 of spades). Players are dealt a number of cards (typically 10 or 13, depending on the variant), with the remaining deck placed face down to form the draw pile and the top card placed face up beside it to start the discard pile. Gameplay involves taking turns, where each player must either 'meld' a valid set or run from their hand using cards from the discard pile or the draw pile, and then discard one card. The turn continues until a player chooses to 'go out' by discarding their last card after successfully forming all their melds, provided they have met the game's initial 'knocking' requirement, which usually involves having 10 or fewer unmatched cards in hand.
