Rummy is a classic card game favored for its blend of strategy and luck, often played with two players. The objective is straightforward: to form sets (three or four cards of the same rank, like three 7s) and runs (three or more sequential cards of the same suit, such as 4-5-6 of hearts) using the cards in your hand and those discarded. To begin, the dealer shuffles a standard 52-card deck and deals ten cards to each player, face down. The remaining deck is placed face down in the center to form the draw pile, with the top card flipped face up beside it to start the discard pile. Players take turns, on which they must perform one of three main actions: they can draw the top card from the draw pile, they can pick up the entire discard pile (including the face-up card), or they can discard one card from their hand onto the discard pile. The turn passes to the opponent after a valid move. The game progresses until one player successfully "goes out" by melding all their cards into valid sets and runs, either by adding to the discard pile with their last card or by drawing the final card needed from the draw pile. Once a player goes out, they score points based on the total value of the cards left in their opponent's hand (aces count as 1 point, face cards as 10 points, and number cards as their face value).
