The Mastermind game target is a small, usually plastic, grid of wells, typically arranged in 4 rows and 4 columns. Each well is designed to hold one colored peg, and beneath the grid of wells lies a hidden code consisting of 4 colored pegs selected from a standard set (commonly 6 colors like red, yellow, green, blue, orange, and black). The objective for the codebreaker is to guess the precise sequence and color of these 4 hidden pegs within a limited number of attempts (often 8 or 10). To receive feedback after each guess, the codebreaker places their chosen set of 4 pegs into the top row of wells. Simultaneously, the game unit reveals two types of feedback below the guess row: black pegs indicate the exact number of correctly placed pegs (right color and right position), while white pegs signify the correct color pegs that are present in the code but placed in the wrong position. This dual feedback system provides crucial clues, guiding the player to refine their subsequent guesses until they successfully deduce the hidden target combination.
