The vibrant world of Indian Rummy unfolds with a satisfying clatter as two decks of 52 cards (plus two jokers) are shuffled and dealt, typically to two to six players. Each player receives a specific number of cards – seven for two or three players, and ten for four to six players – face down to form their initial 'closed' hand, while the remainder is spread out to create the 'open deck' from which cards will be drawn. Simultaneously, three cards are placed face-up nearby to start the 'discard pile'. Players examine their hands, mentally sorting the diverse suite of spades, hearts, diamonds, clubs, and the wild jokers, anticipating their first move: will they begin by adding to the discard pile or drawing a card from the deck to hopefully complete a sequence or group their melds?
