Eights is a popular and simple card game typically played with two to four players using a standard 52-card deck. The objective is to be the first player to get rid of all your cards by matching the rank or suit of the card currently on top of the discard pile. To begin, the deck is thoroughly shuffled, and each player is dealt a hand of either seven or (more commonly) five cards. The remaining cards form the draw pile, placed face down in the center. The player to the dealer's left starts the round by playing any card from their hand onto the discard pile, ensuring it's not an eight. Play then proceeds clockwise; each subsequent player must match the rank (any card of the same number, like another 7) or the suit (any card of the same suit, like another heart) of the card on top of the discard pile. If a player cannot make a match, they must draw the top card from the draw pile. If that drawn card allows them to play, they must do so immediately; if not, the turn passes to the next player. The round ends when a player plays an eight. When an eight is played, the player chooses the new suit for the rest of the round (e.g., if a club eight is played, all subsequent plays must be clubs), and the turn passes to that player. The game continues until one player successfully plays all their cards, becoming the winner of that round and starting the next round.
