Gin Rummy is an engaging two-player card game focused on matching cards to form sets (groups of three or four cards of the same rank) and runs (sequences of three or four cards of consecutive rank and the same suit). The game begins by dealing 10 cards to each player, face down, with the remaining deck placed face down to form the draw pile and the top card of this pile flipped face up beside it to start the discard pile. Players take turns, on each turn consisting of three main phases: drawing a card either from the top of the discard pile (if they choose, potentially over the top card if it's not the starting one) or from the draw pile, melding any valid sets or runs they can form by placing them face up in front of them, and discarding one card onto the discard pile to end their turn. The objective is to reduce one's hand to exactly 10 cards by strategically forming melds and discarding high-value cards. The game ends when one player successfully "goes out" by either melding all their cards and then discarding the final card, or when all cards from the draw pile have been used and the discard pile is exhausted, at which point the player with the lowest total hand value, calculated by adding the face value of unmelded cards (aces count as 1), wins the round.
