Euchre is a lively and engaging classic card game, typically played by four players in two partnerships. The core objective is to be the first team to win ten points, achieved by successfully declaring and meeting a bid of a specific suit, known as the "Trump" suit. The game revolves around a 24-card deck (using only the 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King, and Ace of each suit) and utilizes a unique "pick-up" or "euchre" hand deal where three cards are dealt face down, and players choose one to add to their initial three-card hand, aiming to improve their starting hand. Bidding follows, with players using the Jack of the trump suit (called the "Right Bower" or "Best Bower") and the Jack of the suit immediately outranking trump (the "Left Bower" or "Second Bower") as face-up "kitty" cards, adding strategic value and complexity to the decision of which suit to declare as trump. The remaining four cards form the "layout" or "kitty" in the center, with the player to the left of the dealer having the crucial choice of picking up either the three face-up cards from the kitty or the entire layout. Once trump is declared, the player making the bid (the "maker") must win at least three tricks out of the total of five dealt to secure the points for their team, while the opposing team attempts to "beat the bid" by winning fewer than three tricks.
