Crazy Eights is a popular and lively card game for 2 to 10 players, belonging to the "Eights" family of games. The objective is straightforward: be the first player to get rid of all the cards in your hand by matching either the rank or the suit of the card currently on top of the discard pile. The game begins by determining the dealer, who shuffles the standard 52-card deck and deals a hand of 7 cards to each player. Any remaining cards form the draw pile placed face down beside the discard pile, which starts with the non-dealer's top card from their initial deal (or the dealer's if the first card is an eight). Players take turns clockwise, and on their turn, they must play a card from their hand that matches the rank (any card with the same number, like all Kings) or the suit (any card of the same suit, like all Hearts) of the card currently on top of the discard pile. If a player cannot play a card, they must draw one card from the draw pile. If the drawn card can be played, the player may choose to play it immediately; otherwise, their turn ends. The key twist and name-sake of the game lies in the "Eight" cards. Whenever an Eight is played, the player has the option to declare the next required suit – changing the game's flow and often forcing opponents to draw multiple cards if they don't have the new suit. This strategic element, combined with the need for players to sometimes draw multiple cards when unable to match, adds the game's characteristic "craziness" and keeps everyone on their toes as the discard pile builds and the pressure mounts to get rid of those tricky Eights.
