The card game 'Marriage' (often known locally as '29' or '28' depending on the exact ruleset), popular in Bangladesh, is a fast-paced, trick-taking game played with a standard 52-card deck. Typically involving 3 to 6 players, the objective revolves around avoiding the dreaded "Marriage" combination – holding the 4 of Clubs and the 5 of Diamonds simultaneously. The deck is usually shuffled and dealt such that each player receives a hand of 5 cards. Players then bid, indicating how many tricks they believe they can win. After the bidding phase, the remaining cards are placed face down to form a draw pile, and one card is placed face-up to start the central discard pile. Play proceeds clockwise, with each player discarding one card per turn, following suit if possible, or playing any card otherwise. The highest card of the led suit, or the highest trump card (if any), takes the trick. The winner of each trick leads the next. The game continues until all cards are played or a player successfully avoids the "Marriage" combination by either discarding it during play or, in some variations, by winning it and then choosing to lay it down face-up. The player holding the Marriage loses the round, often having to pay a penalty, while other players may score points for winning tricks or successfully discarding problematic cards.
