For many paleontologists, genetic evidence of interbreeding between modern humans needed supporting by solid, irrefutable fossil artifacts showing that modern humans were living alongside Neanderthals and so could have interbred.
In early 2015 they got it. That evidence was discovered in a cave site called Manot, in Israel.
