In 1971, he approached Union Oil about their plans to build a truck stop along Interstate 80 in Sparks, Nevada. Seeing an opportunity, Sid took the challenge and moved to Sparks, leasing the restaurant, gift shop, and casino rights from Union Oil.

He named his new venture "Sierra Sid's" in tribute to the beautiful mountains he admired. The doors opened in 1972, and the thinly populated city of Sparks quickly fell in love with Sid's reputation for honesty. Over time, the city boomed, and Sierra Sid's became a popular destination for truckers and locals alike.
