The normal range of blood glucose depends on many things including weight, age, and other small things.
THE MEDICAL PROFESSION WOULD have you believe that diabetes is not reversible and only controlling your blood sugar with drugs or insulin will protect you from organ damage and death. The diabetes epidemic is accelerating along with the obesity epidemic, and what you are not hearing about is another way to treat it. Type 2 diabetes, or what was once called adult onset diabetes, is increasing worldwide and now affects nearly 100 million people — and over 20 million Americans.
We are seeing increasing rates of Type 2 diabetes, especially in children, which has increased over 1,000 percent in the last decade and was unknown before this generation. In a report in The New England Journal of Medicine, Walter Willett, MD, PhD, and his colleagues from the Harvard School of Public Health demonstrated that 91 percent of all Type 2 diabetes cases could be prevented through improvements lifestyle and diet. Here, I want to review in detail this new way of thinking about diabetes and outline the tests I recommend to identify problems with blood sugar.
When your diet is full of empty calories, an abundance of quickly absorbed sugars and carbohydrates (bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, etc.), the body slowly becomes resistant to the effects of insulin and needs more to do the same job of keeping your blood sugar even. Insulin resistance and the metabolic syndrome associated with it is often accompanied by increasing central obesity, fatigue after meals, sugar cravings, high triglycerides, low HDL, high blood pressure, problems with blood clotting, as well as increased inflammation. These clues can often be picked up decades before anyone ever gets diabetes — and may help you prevent diabetes entirely.
If you have a family history of obesity (especially around the belly), diabetes, early heart disease, or even dementia you are even more prone to this problem. Most people know about the common complications of diabetes such as heart attacks, strokes, amputations, blindness, kidney failure, and nerve damage. Diabetes and pre-diabetes ARE reversible by aggressively changing lifestyle, nutritional support, and occasionally medications. In fact many people with pre-diabetes never get diabetes, but they are at severe risk just the same. We were highly adapted to a nutrient-dense, low-sugar, high-fiber diet rich in omega-3 fats. Now, in just one generation, they are nearly all obese and 80 percent have diabetes by the time they are 30 years old!
New science shows that it’s possible, through an aggressive approach of lifestyle, nutritional support, and occasionally medications. It is important to diagnose Type 2 diabetes early, but it is often not diagnosed until very late.
In fact, all doctors should aggressively diagnose pre-diabetes decades before diabetes occurs, and before any damage is done to your body. Unfortunately, there is a continuum of risk from slightly abnormal insulin and blood sugar to full blown diabetes. In a recent study, anyone with a fasting blood sugar of over 87 was at increased risk of diabetes. Most doctors are not concerned until the blood sugar is over 110 — or worse, over 126, which is diabetes. Insulin Glucose Challenge Test – This should be done with a 2-hour glucose challenge, 75 grams measuring fasting, 1- and 2-hour blood sugar AND insulin.
Hemoglobin A1C Test – This is an important measure of glycated hemoglobin, which can be an early indicator of sugar problems. NMR Lipid Profile – This test is slightly different from the one above as it identifies the size of your cholesterol particles. High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein Test – This is a measure of inflammation, one of the classic conditions that is both the cause and result of insulin resistance and diabetes.

While diabetics need to be careful and monitor their normal range for blood glucose levels carefully and make sure that they don’t get hypoglycemic, which is low blood sugar and can cause hunger, fainting, shaking, etc.

By keeping yourself healthy so that you can have a normal range cholesterol and also a normal range for blood glucose is an important part of living a long and healthy life.
For a growing number of people knowing and maintaining their blood glucose level normal range is the difference between a long and happy life and a short life filled with health problems. Diabetes is a disease in which the body, due to insufficient production of insulin or resistance to insulin, is not able to correctly process glucose and move it out of the bloodstream.
In order to maintain the blood glucose in the normal range the diabetic should check their blood sugar frequently, often many times daily, and keep a log of the findings. A blood glucose levels chart is a handy thing to have access to for deciphering those glucose numbers on a blood test. Usually a grade of 100 is perfect and a higher score than that means extra credit points were added. The test results in the picture below show a glucose level of 102 which is just over the acceptable fasting blood glucose level.
My doctor told me that the profile of my blood sugar levels test looks like metabolic syndrome or possible pre-diabetes and that steps need to be taken now to get things back on track and not fall off that cliff. A recent study suggests that a breakfast made up of low glycemic index foods can help a person keep blood sugar levels from spiking and then crashing during the rest of the day.
Then other part to fighting pre-diabetes and keeping normal blood glucose levels is adding exercise to the day.

For those with only small mild cases of hyperglycemia can easily manage a normal range of blood glucose with proper exercise and a proper diet. But medication and insulin can actually increase your risk of getting a heart attack or dying. Insulin resistance, when the body becomes resistant to the effects of insulin, is primarily what causes diabetes. The high insulin leads to an appetite that is out of control, and increasing weight gain around the belly. Some may even know that it increases your risk of dementia and cancers and can cause impotence. Therefore, I recommend early testing with anyone who has a family history of Type 2 diabetes, central abdominal weight gain or abnormal cholesterol. Your blood sugar should be less than 80 fasting and never rise above 110 or 120 after one to two hours. It measures sugars and proteins combining into glycated proteins called AGEs (advanced glycation end products), like the crust on bread, or the crispy top on creme brule. An HDL or good cholesterol level under 60 and triglycerides over 100 should make you suspicious of insulin resistance. With insulin resistance or Type 2 diabetes, you develop small LDL and HDL cholesterol particles.
I have seen this hundreds of times in my patients and there is no reason you can’t achieve the same thing if you apply these principles. High cholesterol can stem from many things such as eating too high fatty foods, too much grease, too much junk food, etc.
This is seen as the case in normal patients, with no other medical conditions, but the blood glucose level normal range can be affected by metabolic diseases like diabetes, as well as it may be affected by other factors such as the age or weight of the patient.
By the numbers, diabetes cases are growing faster than any other disease, and as numbers increase the importance of the correct blood glucose normal range increases.
While glucose is essentially the fuel that powers every cell in the body, when glucose levels are too high it becomes toxic and begins to damage organs and other body systems. If this is done the diabetic can begin to see patterns in their blood sugar in relation to their diet and lifestyle and can make have medication and dietary changes in order to keep their glucose levels as close to normal as possible.


Most of us don’t have any idea what good numbers are and looking at the glucose levels chart to compare it to your numbers can be enlightening.
That isn’t the case with blood sugar levels scores, it’s more like golf where the lower the score the better off a person is. The study recommended including almonds as part of breakfast to keep glucose levels in a normal range.
I seem to go in spurts of regular daily exercise followed by periods of sloth and excessive television watching. The symptoms of hypoglycemia are shaking, confusion, dizziness, and fainting if levels become too low.
Those who have a more serious case of diabetes much constantly watch what they eat and their blood glucose levels with a meter. Your insulin should be less than 5 fasting and should never rise above 30 after one to two hours. These create inflammation and oxidative stress throughout the body, and promote heart disease and dementia and accelerating aging.
They are much more dangerous than larger particles and lead to increased risk of atherosclerosis or heart disease. In fact, anyone with a high C-reactive protein has a 1,700 percent increased risk of getting diabetes.
This is entirely due to sugar and carbohydrates in our diet that cause fatty liver, liver damage, and even cirrhosis. If blood glucose levels are not maintained as close to the normal range as possible the diabetic runs a very high risk of developing heart disease, kidney problems, stroke, glaucoma, and even coma and death.
When it come to living a long and happy life knowing the blood glucose level normal range is of absolute importance.
100 is the upper level of where a person wants to be and higher than that can indicate existing health problems or future health problems that will develop.
It’s more like standing on the edge of a cliff and the jury is out on whether or not you are going to fall off or regain your balance and continue on your way.
Every year older I get those fasting glucose levels seem to creep up a little bit away from normal blood sugar levels. I don’t think that the study was commissioned by almond growers so it is probably worth looking into.
More discipline and changing up old exercise routines is my plan to keep on track with an exercise program. A doctor’s care is necessary for those with diabetes or blood sugar levels that indicate diabetes is a real danger to their health.
Plus they may have to use insulin that they inject into their blood stream to help with the blood glucose level.
I recommend this test for everyone over 50, and for anyone with any risk of insulin resistance, even children. If that number gets too high then you are putting yourself in harm’s way and taking the chance or risks of a heart attack or stroke. Getting them back in order is a matter of eating better and making sure that daily exercise is part of my life.
As you could probably guess lower glycemic index foods are lower in sugar and higher in fiber than most foods. Hopefully this will make the numbers on the blood sugar levels chart look better and not like the ones on a diabetic blood sugar chart.
If the body has a constant or uneven change in the blood glucose levels it may be a sign of diabetes.
The time to reverse that gradual increase in blood sugar levels is now when it can be done through diet and exercise, not later when it is a condition that needs to be managed with daily medicine.
This presence of hyperglycemia in the body generally means that the body is not producing the amount of insulin needed to convert the sugar into energy.
Watching what you eat and by knowing your prescribed normal range of blood glucose levels you can watch for these.
