When most people think of diabetes, they tend to think that it has to do with eating too much sugar or being overweight.  For children diagnosed with Type 1 (or Juvenile) Diabetes, this is not the case.
Type 1 Diabetes affects about 3 million Americans, and each year 15,000 more children and adults are diagnosed.  So, what exactly is Type 1 Diabetes?  This form of diabetes is an autoimmune disease, where the body stops producing insulin, and it is not caused by diet or lifestyle.
In diabetes, the pancreas doesn’t make enough insulin or the body can’t respond normally to the insulin that is made.
Insulin pump – these small, computerized devices allow for a continuous flow of insulin to be released the body.
Lactose intolerance is a common gastrointestinal condition often causing painful and embarrassing symptoms from the consumption of dairy products. Symptoms can be painful, embarrassing, and socially difficult to manage to the point that it can significantly impact one’s quality of life.
Secondary causes may include less common factors, such as intestinal parasites, chemotherapy, penicillin reactions, surgery, pregnancy, or dairy avoidance.
Lactose intolerance is often diagnosed through an individual’s clinical history which reveals a relationship between lactose ingestion and onset of symptoms. Dizziness or feeling light headedness, Confusion, headache, drowsiness, Nausea, Sudden trouble in hearing, Blurred vision- You may see spots in front of eyes, sweating , flushed or pale color, weakness, trembling or shaking, rapid heart beat (Palpitations) or shortness of breath, Incontinence (inability to hold urine or stool) is common. I need Islamic medical advise and treatment on person falling from time to time unconscious.
His blood glucose was extremely high and he was immediately admitted into the pediatrics unit. At that time I just wanted to crawl into bed and cry, but there was this little person looking at me and waiting for my reaction.
Type 1 diabetes also known as Juvenile diabetes can occur at any age, but is most commonly diagnosed before age 30.
Research has shown that the trigger – an event or series of events occurring many months before the symptoms present themselves – is a combination of environmental and genetic factors that begin a process in which the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas.

To stay alive, people with Type 1 diabetes must monitor their blood glucose frequently (minimum 4 times a day – 6 times when on insulin pump), inject insulin several times a day or continuously infusing insulin through a pump. If you wish to become part of it or make a donation just visit my son’s fundraising page or official JDRF Walk For Cure page. Its great that you were on top of your son’s changes in order to have him diagnosed and thanks for the list of warning signs.
The pumps have a small, flexible tube (called a catheter), which is inserted under the skin of the abdomen and taped into place.
People with lactose intolerance have a low activity level of lactase, the enzyme responsible for breaking down lactose, a sugar commonly present in dairy products. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Nutrition (2006), “the symptoms of lactose intolerance can lead to significant discomfort, disruption of the quality of life, and loss of school attendance, leisure and sports activities, and work time, all at a cost to individuals, families and society.” Furthermore, in an Engage Health 2008 study on lactose intolerance, 82% of patients reported that their lactose intolerance affects their daily activities. In rare cases, infants can be born with a genetic disorder that prevents the production of lactase. Hydrogen breath test, a validated diagnostic method may be utilized to diagnose problems with lactose digestion, as well as a milk challenge may be used to recognize one’s symptom severity. We are aware of the long-term consequences of high blood pressure, but very low blood pressure is much more dangerous. In a matter of weeks he changed from bubbly and healthy hockey player to sick-looking skinny boy who was always tired.
When he started peeing his bed I took him to our family doctor and my worst fear came true. He was white as a ghost, very fragile and had to be hooked up to an IV unit for almost 2 days just to get him stabilized. I can’t even imagine if he went into coma in the middle of his hockey game and we wouldn’t know why.

They must coordinate all their physical activities with their meal plan and insulin intake. Most people don’t realize what a serious illness it is or the consequences if it goes untreated.
This decrease in lactase production tends to be stronger in non-dairy consuming societies, for example certain African and Asian populations.
Further tests can be conducted to rule out other digestive diseases or conditions, including: stool examination to document the presence of a parasite, blood tests to determine the presence of celiac disease, and intestinal biopsies to determine mucosal problems leading to malabsorption, such as inflammatory bowel disease or ulcerative colitis. Brief unconsciousness or fainting is often caused by dehydration, low blood sugar, or stress, fear and emotional upsets.
By this article his aim is to create awareness among people how to go about and deal with commonly encountered emergency medical situations till one gets medical help. Special planning must be done before traveling, attending school and pretty much most of the day to day life. I think my disease is easier to manage than diabetes, though, even if it’s hard to find food at times. I told his Dr for weeks that something was wrong just to get blown off till I finally threw a fit to get him checked and was rushed to the hospital to be there for a week. Symptoms of lactose intolerance typically become present in children and young adults, but can also develop in older individuals. My son is my hero he has gone through so much and still has so much to deal with with this disease yet I never hear him complain about any of it.Our lives have changed so much in the past month and having to live our lives on a schedule counting every carb that he eats.
I could go on and on but I won’t I just wanted to say reading your story meant so much to me knowing that their are other moms out there who felt as lost and helpless as I did and still do at times.
