We spoke to Nik Toth, creator of the Lean Body Formula and the convo started a little like this, "I'm not in the habit of lying to people, I am going to come right out and say it. Looking at history and human physiology it's pretty clear we evolved without eating sugar on the reg. Hate to pick on fructose but it not only increases our fat levels, but also messes with our hunger hormones. Many people make the mistake of reaching for sugary snacks when they are low on energy, but sugar doesn't actually energise you.
According to Nik, this is how it works: When you eat sugar, first your blood sugar levels rise.
According to Nik, once your gut bacteria goes out of balance and the bad guys take over, you can experience poor digestive function, bloating, gas, yeast infections and not-to-mention a stronger urge for sugar. According to research conducted by the University of Montreal, sugar can make you age faster, whilst a diet low in sugar can actually lengthen your lifespan.
I love the idea of something warm and filling on a cold winter morning and especially needed something when camping. Eat this and have a good start to your day, whether it's starting from home or out in the woods. The portions are dense and packed with nutrients, the portion sizes are small, so you get a lot of cereal and a lot of servings for very little. Making the CerealI usually pour all the ingredients into a bag, like one from the produce section at the grocery store, and just mix it together like that. I use whatever granola I can find and am in the mood for, sometimes I'll use a couple of varieties to make an interesting flavor.
Make it HealthyMake this cereal healthier by adding nutritious add-ins such as flaxseeds, wheat germ, and Brewer's Yeast.
If you only add a touch of the add-ins you'll add lots of healthiness and your family won't even notice. FlaxseedFlaxseed is a great source of fiber, Omega-3s, lignans, and helps stabilize blood-sugar levels. Only use a small amount of flaxseed in the beginning if you are unused to it since it can cause gas with its high fiber content.
Use already ground flaxseed or flaxseed meal, or grind the flaxseed with a coffee grinder before using it. Brewers YeastBrewer's yeast is a very easy way to add lots of B vitamins and essential minerals to your cereal.
Only add a small amount until you are used to it, Brewer's yeast can cause some gas if you are unused to it.
Brewer's yeast helps lower blood glucose levels in diabetics, helps prevent colds and the flu, even swine flu. Nuts and Seeds for your CerealI like to add several types so I get a bit more texture and some great, long-lasting protein. Any nuts or seeds you like will work, I tend to add more almonds than anything, with a scattering of sunflower seeds and chopped peanuts. You can make this cereal without nuts if you're allergic to nuts, though you might consider putting in some seeds for protein. Buy raw pumpkin seeds so they're healthier, and make sure they are already shelled since they're a pain in the butt to shell by hand. Since raisins are very heavily treated with chemicals, organic is almost a requirement to make sure they are nice and healthy. What dried fruit I use in my cereal varies, but I almost always add raisins because with mixing together my own cereal I can add however many raisins that I want, more than just two scoops even. They have polyphenol antioxidants too, which might help fight cancer and is good for the immune system. MulberriesMulberries have loads of antioxidants, including resveratrol which is the famous extremely healthy one in red wine. It's best to get organic mulberries since they're often heavily covered in pesticides otherwise. BlueberriesBlueberries also contain resveratrol, that good-for-you-stuff in wine and are supposed to help with cholesterol levels and blood pressure. Add Extra YummiesThe best thing about mixing up your own cereal is that you can add whatever you want to it. Add Dry MilkOne of the best parts of this cereal is that you can just add hot water to make it. How many times have you gone to make cereal and found out the milk is gone or has gone bad? Calicum-Rich Dry Milk for your CerealMilk makes the hot cereal taste better and gives you some extra calcium and is great for giving you that long lasting full feeling.
I hate having to drag regular milk along while camping or worry about having it in my fridge all the time. Vegan Dry MilkIf you are vegan add a vegan dry milk powder to your cereal instead or regular dry milk. It should exchange with regular milk powder just fine, but since I haven't tried it I'd suggest trying the soy milk powder before adding it directly to this cereal mixture. It may not mix up the same as regular milk powder so you may need to add more or less of it to your cereal to have to taste right. Granulated HoneySprinkle some of these honey granules into your cereal mix for a lovely taste and the sweetness of honey.
Make it Vegetarian or VeganThe hot cereal is inherently vegetarian, but you can even make it vegan by leaving out the dry milk and any honey and choosing mix-ins that come from vegan sources.
Add Spices and FlavoringsThere are several additional spices and flavorings that are nice to add in. Top the cereal with spices if you wish, sometimes I'll add a bit of cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice or powdered vanilla extract to give it a nice flavor.
About a couple of teaspoons is about right depending upon how much flavor your granola already has.
I think the next batch I'm going to try the powdered peanut butter I've been hearing about.
Powdered Peanut ButterI haven't tried it added to the cereal yet, but powdered peanut butter would be great to add some flavor that will spread throughout the cereal. Part of the reason I like this cereal so much is that it really makes a food start to the day and gives you energy to keep going for hours even on cold days.
This powdered peanut butter is low in calories and high in protein and a perfect thing to add to cereal or a smoothie to have alongside your cereal. Powdered VanillaNot a normal ingredient in my cereal, simply because I rarely have it around, but powdered vanilla is a great way to add vanilla flavor to the cereal. Make it OrganicThis cereal is easy to make organic since most of the ingredients are readily available in organic versions. For camping I usually just use a ziplock bag, but at home I have some nice cereal storage containers.
This cereal mixture doesn't need to be stored in the refrigerator, I just leave it in the cupboard since it's shelf-stable, but if you take a long time to eat it or your house is very warm you may want to keep it in the fridge. I have had problems with getting weevils coming in from the nuts and stuff, so lately I've been keeping it in the fridge more often. Stir the cereal so it gets evenly moist and let it sit for about 20 seconds so it can get wet.
This cereal is warm and filling and great on a cold day, though you can also have it cold any time. Just Heat Hot WaterThe picture above shows the cereal after hot water was added and it soaked for a few seconds. 0Central, Northern & Eastern European CuisineMake Some Himmel und ErdeHimmel und Erde is a German dish made up of potatoes, apples, and turnips, mashed together with onions and bacon to make a sort of delicious mashed potato mixture. Bluelight medical device, the authoritative expert of traditional Chinese medicine treatment! As blood sugar levels become more abnormal, additional symptoms may include headaches, blurred vision, and fatigue. In most cases, type 2 diabetes is not discovered until it takes a noticeable toll on health. Race or ethnicity: Hispanics, African Americans, Native Americans, and Asians have a higher than average risk. Having gestational diabetes when you're pregnant puts you at higher risk for developing type 2 diabetes later on.
Fortunately, controlling blood sugar levels by changing diet can also cut your risk of complications.
Moderate exercise, such as strength training or walking, improves the body's use of insulin and can lower blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes.
When people with type 2 diabetes are unable to control blood sugar sufficiently with diet and exercise, medication may be added. Your doctor may prescribe insulin early in on your treatment and in combination with pills. Testing your blood glucose level will let you know how controlled your blood sugars are and if you need to take actions to change your treatment plan. High blood sugar can damage the tiny blood vessels that bring oxygen and nutrients to the retina, a critical part of the eye.
Uncontrolled diabetes, and elevated blood sugars over time, increases the risk of nerve damage. One of the most astonishing things about type 2 diabetes is that such a life-altering condition is often preventable. In people with prediabetes, lifestyle changes and medication can help prevent the progression to type 2 diabetes. People with type 2 diabetes can often keep their blood sugar levels under control with diet, exercise, and medicine.
Thirst and frequent urination are two classic diabetes signs caused by too much sugar in your blood. If you have high blood pressure as well as diabetes, the two conditions can damage the kidneys' ability to filter wastes and fluid over time.

Nerve damage (called peripheral neuropathy) can be another sign of chronically elevated blood sugars. Diabetes also damages the nerve that helps your stomach empty and move food smoothly through your digestive tract. High blood sugar and high blood pressure both can damage the sensitive structures in your eyes and threaten your vision.
If your blood sugar isn't well controlled, you might find that cuts and bruises are slow to heal.
Don't panic about diabetes complications -- try to avoid them by carefully following your doctor's treatment plan.
Sure, you've heard it all before, "Sugar makes you fat!" "Sugar is the devil" but knowing the actual reasons why is the best way to understand why sugar — despite it's addictive taste — isn't good for you. Back in the good ol' caveman days, sugar was consumed in the form of seasonal fruit and honey.
Then your pancreas has to dump insulin into the blood supply to bring the sugar levels back to normal so that the high blood sugar levels don’t cause havoc on your entire system.
Our digestive tract houses nearly two kilograms of bacteria, ideally with a balance of good and bad. If these symptoms are all too familiar, it’s important to balance your gut and restore good bacteria in the digestive tract. My boyfriend loves hot cereals, but I've always detested oatmeal and most hot breakfast cereals because of their textures. A box of Grape Nuts and a box of granola, plus all the add-ins can add up, but it actually works out to be fairly cheap. I always start with Grape Nuts and granola, then add sugar and dry milk, but everything else varies depending upon what I have available. When I first started making this I would often be on my way to go camping and would just stop at the grocery store that had bins that sold many of the supplies per pound and I just got what I would consider enough of each ingredient, then when I went outside I would shake them all up into one bag and would shove it into my camping cook box.
I'll usually add a little bit of everything so there will be at least one meal where I'll be getting balanced nutrition.Raisins are always good, whether dark or golden. Who are they to decide that you can't have raisins and chocolate chips, or blueberries, almonds, and vanilla? Powdered milk makes this cereal able to be kept in the cupboard or the camping chuck box without refrigeration, and with no fuss. I prefer sugar, so that's what I use, but if you would rather have something lower in calories or more natural, feel free to add alternatives instead. This cereal mixture makes a lot and lasts a while, so if your family likes it it's worth investing in some storage containers.
This is often accompanied by additional problems, including dry mouth, increased appetite, frequent urination — sometimes as often as every hour — and unusual weight loss or gain. Diabetes can cause damage to blood vessels and nerve endings in the penis causing impotence. The A1C test gives a snapshot of your blood glucose level over the past two to three months. People with type 2 diabetes should carefully monitor carbohydrate consumption, as well as total fat and protein intake, and reduce calories.
Being active also helps reduce body fat, lower blood pressure, and protect against heart disease. Insulin is also used in people with type 2 diabetes who develop "beta-cell failure." This means the cells in the pancreas no longer produce insulin in response to high blood sugar levels. How often and when you test will be based on how controlled your diabetes is, the type of therapy used to control your diabetes, and whether you are experiencing symptoms of fluctuating sugars. Controlling risk factors such as uncontrolled diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol reduces your risk of developing this complication.
This is known as diabetic retinopathy, and it can cause progressive, irreversible vision loss. Symptoms include tingling, numbness, pain, and a pins and needles feeling in the fingers, hands, toes and feet . But unless you check your blood sugar level every day with a meter, you won't have the most accurate results. As your kidneys work harder to filter out the sugar, they also pull more fluids from your tissues, which is why you have to go to the bathroom more often than usual. When sugar is staying in your bloodstream instead of being diverted to your body's cells, your muscles don't get enough fuel to use for energy. Because your brain needs glucose to function, a drop in blood sugar can be dangerous -- even life-threatening -- if you don't address it.
As water builds up in your body, your hands and feet may swell -- a warning sign that you may have kidney disease. It results in numbness or tingling in your hands and feet, or inability to feel pain or temperature changes. When your stomach can't empty quickly enough, a condition called gastroparesis, you may deal with unpleasant abdominal problems like diarrhea, constipation, or incontinence. Diabetic retinopathy -- caused by damage to the blood vessels in the eye -- is the biggest cause of blindness in adults. But if you're losing weight quickly, without trying, or without doing anything different, it may be a sign that your blood sugar is too high.
You might experience gum disease, urinary tract infections, bacterial or fungal infections of the skin, or, if you're a woman, yeast infections. Tending to injuries, however small, is important because it reduces the risk of infections in people with diabetes. Take your medicine, eat a healthy diet, and exercise to keep your blood sugar levels in check. Call if you feel dizzy or your blood sugar drops, or if you have severe symptoms like uncontrolled vomiting, dizziness, numbness or tingling, or blurred or double vision that doesn't go away. 8, 2012 I had a live blood microscopy with Rick Panson, a microbiologist, at the Live-Live store in NYC. Once this happens, you experience the "crash", which often leaves you craving more carbs because your blood sugar levels just lowered. Don't worry about exact proportions on this recipe, make it fit your family and what they like to eat.
Adding some dry milk adds calcium without having to worry about having fresh milk around and adding sweetener makes it simple to pour and go. The dry milk and the sweetener will sift toward the bottom if you shake it too much, just do it enough to mix it.
Diabetes is a chronic condition that thwarts the body's ability to change food into energy. With insulin resistance, the body makes excess insulin but the muscle, liver, and fat cells do not use or respond properly to insulin. It's estimated between 35% and 70% of men with diabetes will have at least some degree of impotence in their lifetime. Having a history of polycystic ovary syndrome can also cause insulin resistance that can lead to diabetes.
Ask your doctor for a referral to a registered dietitian to help you with healthy choices and an eating plan that will work for you.
People with type 2 diabetes should try to get 30 minutes of moderate exercise on most days of the week.
Some work by stimulating the pancreas to make more insulin, and others improve the effectiveness of insulin, or block the digestion of starches. In this case, insulin therapy — injections or an insulin pump — must become part of the daily routine. Talk with your doctor to find out how often you should use a glucose meter to check your blood sugar. Annual screening for kidney disease and medications, which slow the development and progression of kidney disease, are used to reduce your risk of kidney failure. You can preserve the kidney function you have by taking your diabetes and blood pressure medicines as prescribed.
Blurred vision, spots, lines, or flashing lights are signs that it's time to see your eye doctor. When your glucose is high, it gets flushed out of the body in urine, taking the calories and fluids you consume with it. Other infections might include pneumonia and respiratory infections, kidney and gallbladder infections, and severe bacterial middle ear and fungal sinus infections. Infections themselves can also worsen blood sugars, which makes it even harder for your immune system to fight off the infection. Use your meter to test your blood sugar so you know that it's staying in the recommended range. According to Nik, while there are different types of sugar in food, fructose (the naughty one) has the biggest impact on our waistlines and health because our bodies can't metabolise it well — it goes straight to the liver, which immediately stores it as body fat.
This isn't the breakfast cereal where you have to fill the bowl with liquid, though my boyfriend adds quite a bit to his. This allows sugar levels to build up in the blood, which can increase the risk of heart disease, loss of vision, and other serious complications. With long-standing, uncontrolled type 2 diabetes the pancreas will reduce the amount of insulin it produces.
Instead of letting stress take its toll, try practicing relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, or visualization.
Some common testing times may be when waking up, before and after meals and exercise, and at bedtime.
People with diabetes are likely to develop plaque in their arteries, reducing blood flow and increasing risk of clots.
And when you track your results in a log, your doctor can tell how well you're responding to your treatment plan over time. People with neuropathy may not realize they have been injured from a cut or that a wound is becoming infected.
An A1C test at least twice a year will give you a good snapshot of your blood sugar control over time. He spent an hour going over what he saw in my blood as well as giving me pointers that would move me into a greater state of health.

Small fruits are better since this is such a quick cereal to prepare, but if I want to something special I'll soak some of the heavier fruit overnight and toss it in.

At the bottom of the page are images that various people suffering with Morgellons graciously contributed to this site.A note on the photos.
Rick provided me with photos for this page and I've filled in some of the gaps with screen grabs taken from the video that was taping our session.Nov.
There are several stages of microorganisms? here which include yeast, bacteria and fibrin, fungus and mold. In the background are 'shadow cells' which were healthy red blood cells that 'popped' due to the loss of their phospolipid membranes. This can occur from an acid producing diet, and poor assimilation of nutrients.Rick's comments "Healthy blood cells will be perfectly round, nice and dark with a glowing halo around them.
Usually, if they have enough moisture inside them they are fully round because there is more pressure inside the cell then outside.""These 'shadow' or ghost cells were once perfectly healthy cells, you can see by their shape and color that they were—and they've now disappeared into the background. Every cell in the body has a double membrane of fat made up of phospholipids, a two layer membrane.
The acids can disentegrate the cell membrane as well as when your body ferments sugar, alcohol is the byproduct, and alcohol can easily melt the cell membrane.""Whatever is happening in the blood cells is happening to the rest of the body. Clotted mass of blood cells due to changes in the cells polarity, loss of natural negative electrical charge. When there are this many cells and this little water, we are looking at the hydration level of the body.
These nets act as a defense mechanism for the bacteria so that the white blood cells can't get to them. There is no doubt that that is not part of normal healthy blood, and it's way bigger then what I think could survive in your cardiovascular system without being filtered out by your filter organs. That's why I don't think it's a fiber, per se, because it's so big compared to everything else. From a biology point of view, my best guess is that it would be a contaminent that has nothing to do with you. The red blood cells are fermenting as the yeast eats the cell itself.Above: Neutrophils You go guys!
The other arrow is free-floating yeast, and you can see there is quite a bit of it in the blood.
Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) is the most important and most effective alkalizer your body makes to try and keep alkaline balance. This is not the greatest water filter but what it does is alkaline the water, so instead of drinking water that is pH 5 or 6, one is drinking water with a pH of 8-10 giving the body a running start on staying alkaline. The benefits of this water are it's antioxidant properties which nullify free radical scavengers, plus the extra oxygen in the water is supposed to give energy and boost alertness and memory.Candida detox Next on the plate is to tackle the candida with capyrilic acid and olive leaf extract (for about 2 months).
I'm just going to take the recommended dosages on the bottles adding in one teaspoon of l-glutamine powder per day. The glutamine assists in strengthening the gut wall and helps patch any holes left by the yeast (which could lead to leaky gut syndrome and the problems it leads to, such as food allergies and parasites) Respiration "The biggest acid you make everyday is carbonic acid. Every cell in your body is producing carbon dioxide from the bottom of your feet to the top of your head that is also surrounded by water and the carbon dioxide plus water makes carbonic acid, that's a very simple thing to keep in mind.
By looking for acid based balance the amount of acid produced per day must be equal to the amount excreted or nutralized per day.
The thing that is happening is, if your body can't neutralize or eliminate the acid you stay at that level, you can't go beyond that level of health. You are taking the chest cavity, ribs and the lungs and trying to get them to be fantastic. Do 10 deep breaths a day 3x's a day (with long exhalation), in one month you are going to have a respiratory function that is 10%-15% better then you have now. Which means 10%-15% more energy and 10-15% less fermentation because fermentation only takes place where there is no oxygen. It's the greatest tool you have and it's free."Alkalizing with baking soda "The methods of getting rid of acidity from the body are respiration, perspiration, defecation and urination.
Rick gave me a great little tool (from the vet) that allows me to carry the soda in my back pocket making it more convienient to take. This is problematic for those of us taking supplements upon rising which are not supposed to be taken with clay. However, I'm trying to fit it in somewhere along the line.Magnesium oxide also called Oxy-Mag (NOW makes it). The process of oxygenating the bowel breaks down and eliminates solidified waste lodged in the large and small intestines. Beware, if you take it (up to one teaspoon at night in water with the juice of 1-2 lemons), you must leave time the next morning to eliminate fully. Rick says that eventually this watery stool will cease when the body is cleaned of accumulated waste. I try and do this once a week.Food During our session together I became increasingly confused about food. All those veggies will eventually turn to sugar so they have to be balanced out with oils and proteins. I was told by Nancy that each meal should have a carb, oil and protein and have been following that for some time. Rick has said the same thing and suggested I start the day with a chia smoothie."The perfect breakfast would be 2 tablespoons of chia seeds, ground to be chia meal with 2 tablespoons of chlorophyl, (spirulina, chlorella or grass powders (greener grasses, alkavision greens). Ground flax seeds can be added." "Chlorophyll is very cleansing and is a blood builder and it has a molecular structure that looks almost identical to red blood cells. When you take the chia seed and the flax seeds which are 28% protein 40-50% omega 3 fatty acids, that's very little carbohydrate there. The greens are 100% carbohydrate and when you mix them together, now you have carbs that burn like paper and you've got fats and oils, with proteins that don't really burn. The fats and oils are like the charcoal—now you have a sustained burn going on and then you don't ferment the sugars because the coal, the fatty acids, are there.
So that breakfast with the chia seeds or flax seeds, or both, and any of those chlorophyls you are using can be a very beneficial superfood breakfast. They time release and give it back to you so you have have nice long sustained energy with oils, proteins and carbs all day. You'd be surprised, you don't need a lot of food, what you need is the right food."Rick suggested the more chia seeds used, the less hungry one will be.
In fact, chia seeds have the highest known whole-food source levels of Omega-3 acids, as measured by percent of weight.• ?Rich In Antioxidants. Chia is a great natural source of antioxidants, including chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, myricetin, quercetin and flavonols.• Full of Important Nutrients.
Chia is an excellent source of calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, iron, zinc and copper. About five percent of this fiber is soluble, which can help reduce cholesterol.•  Builds Endurance. Chia builds stamina and endurance because it steadily releases slow-burning glucose into the bloodstream.• ?Gluten-Free. Since essential amino acids are not produced by the body, it's important to get amino acids from nutrient-rich sources like chia seeds.
Research suggests leucine may help regulate blood sugar levels and aid in muscle recovery after exercise.• ?Stays Fresh.
16, 2012 • 2nd Live blood microscopyI saw Rick for a second live blood analysis on November 16, 2012. No ghost cells, no rouleax or sticky blood, the red blood cells are fuller, look stronger and are hydrated.
Candida has been greatly reduced in just 2+ months.?The treatment of olive leaf extract, caprylic acid and l-glutamine powder as per his suggestion for candida is working. I began addressing it by taking one capsule of both the olive leaf and caprylic acid plus one heaping tsp.
After I was sure I had no reactions to this, upped the dosage to 2 caps of each with one tsp. That is not to say that the Morgellons has been effected, we saw two fibers in the dried blood samples. There seemed to me to be more bacteria in the blood and the white blood cells although they are strong and were very active were not plentiful. I attribute the lower level of white blood cell activity to the fact that I was more sedentary these past two months then normally due to a foot problem that kept me off it. Rick suggested that I do lymphatic drainage work using a brush or mitt, followed by getting on a rebounder to jumpstart the lymph moving. He feels that getting the lymphatics going will produce more white blood cells to remove the bacteria from the blood. The chia seeds in the morning are wonderful. Rick suggests way to activate more white blood cell activity by way of the lymphatic system.
