LAN Airlines is releasing seven flat bed Business Class award seats per flight for most flights from Washington-Dulles to Lima for the next 11 months.
LAN launches the new route on May 2, 2016 flying Sundays, Monday, and Thursdays in both directions.
There are seven Business Class seats and seven economy award seats you can book with American Airlines miles on nearly every flight from May 2, 2016 through late March 2017. Business Class is only 30,000 miles one way from the United States to Northern South America, including anywhere in Peru.
Peru is one of my favorite countries with a mega-city, Amazon Rainforest, Lake Titicaca, dessert, and beaches plus amazing food and culture. Just meeting its spending requirement gets you 55,000 miles, just shy of the 60,000 needed for a roundtrip in Business Class to Peru. It is not the world’s nicest product, but realistically you cannot do much better on a flight under eight hours to South America. Unfortunately American and its partner Alaska don’t have many flights into Dulles where the flights to Peru departs. This space works perfectly for connections within Peru, landing early morning in Lima in time to catch connections and leaving Peru mid-morning, giving time to make connections heading home. I’d recommend flying an open jaw roundtrip to see more of the region without backtracking.
Each way in economy is 20,000 American Airlines miles. Each way in Business Class is 30,000 American Airlines miles. The Citi Prestige® Card offers a $250 Air Travel Credit each calendar year that offsets your first $250 in spending on airlines with the card. The card also comes with 50,000 bonus ThankYou Points after spending $3,000 in the first three months, which can be transferred to 13 types of airline miles or used like cash toward the purchase of any ticket. Book your 2016 or 2017 trip to Peru with fantastic flat bed LAN Business Class award space, using American Airlines miles right now. LAN Airlines is introducing a new nonstop flight between Los Angeles and Santiago, Chile three times per week between October 16, 2016 and March 25, 2017, the South American summer. LAN Business Class on its 787 Dreamliner is a world-standard flat bed with six seats per row in a 2-2-2 configuration.
In that configuration, I always recommend a middle seat, so you and the person next to you both have aisle access without having to climb over each other. This flight operates three times a week: Monday, Wednesday, Saturday from Los Angeles and Sunday, Tuesday, and Friday returning to Los Angeles. Here is a connection to Punta Arenas, the launching point for the best trek of my life: the W (not the hotel) at Torres del Paine. You could also easily connect this award space to Sant Cruz, Bolivia (high on my list) or the in-town airport in Buenos Aires.
Alternatively, instead of booking now, you can put the award space on hold for five days for free when you call American Airlines. Get both cards and meet the $6,000 total spending requirement to have over 106,000 American Airlines miles. Book–or put on hold–LAN Business Class award space to South America today with your American Airlines miles.
I just redeemed 5,650 Avios and $84 for a flight from Santiago to Buenos Aires (AEP), the closer airport to the city. Even tickets to the worse airport were $180+, meaning I was very happy to use an Avios & Money award.
First I checked out the Santiago airport Wikipedia page to see what airlines fly to Buenos Aires. Aerolineas Argentinas and KLM flights can be booked with Delta miles, but they cost quite a bit more miles. Sky Airline can be booked with cash, which means you can use Arrival miles or the $250 Air Travel Credit on the Citi Prestige® Card to pay for the flight. Award space was available on the day I searched in economy on the flights to EZE and in premium economy to AEP.
I selected that and paid with my Citi Prestige® Card to earn 3x points per dollar on airfare.
Avios are the best miles to use for short, direct, economy awards on airlines or routes without fuel surcharges.
Now I just have to book from the United States to Chile, which I plan to do with Asiana for 35,000 miles one way in Business Class. Alaska Airlines miles can be used to book a diverse array of oneworld, SkyTeam, and non-alliance partners. I’ve written about some of my four favorite Alaska miles redemptions here, and I want to expand on one of those options. This relies on the free stopover on one way Alaska Airlines awards and Alaska’s two partners in the region. You should fairly easily be able to stopover in any of these places en route to some other destination on the airlines as part of an Alaska Airlines award. Alaska also partners with American Airlines and Delta, which have flights to Latin America, but they are much less useful for awards with many destinations in Latin America, since all of the American and Delta hubs are in the United States or Asia.

This award imagines a person living in Los Angeles who wants to fly Business Class all the way, which will cost 90,000 miles total. Pay your award taxes with your Citi Prestige® Card, since it comes with a $250 Air Travel Credit every calendar year that will cover the award taxes and fees on these ticket. Even if you’ve already used your $250 credit for this year, the card offers 3x on all airfare purchases. LAN Airlines, the flag carrier of Chile, has daily flights from Santiago to Easter Island, also known as Rapa Nui and Isla de Pascua. What makes far less sense is the weekly flight from Easter Island another five hours west to Tahiti. LAN is a member of a oneworld, so you can use American Airlines miles or British Airways Avios to book the flights. That makes tickets from Lima or Santiago to Easter Island outrageously expensive with American Airlines miles. There are no fuel surcharges on any of these routes, and taxes and fees are the same no matter which miles you use. Economy awards from Santiago to Easter Island cost 12,500 Avios + $11 or 4,000 Avios + $87, which is a better deal and ridiculously cheap. It prices slightly higher because of taxes, but you can still book one of the most interesting routes in the world for an astounding 4,000 Avios + $106. The British Airways Visa offers 50,000 bonus Avios after spending $2,000 in the first three months. The Hawaiian Airlines MasterCard offers 35,000 bonus miles after spending $1,000 in the first 90 days. LAN flies some interesting routes in the South Pacific from Easter Island to Tahiti, Santiago, and Lima. All the necessary miles are easy to get with credit card bonuses from 35,000 to 75,000 miles.
Pets are not permitted on flights lasting more than 12 hours, or flights from Hawaii, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Venezuela, Paraguay, or Uraguay. You must register your pet in advance of your flight by contacting American Airlines (contact information here). Pets traveling in the baggage compartment may not be accepted if the flight is over 12 hours or on flights to the United Kingdom.
If two animals are sharing a carrier they must be the same species and cannot weight more than 20 lbs. American Airlines will not accept brachycephalic or snub-nosed dogs and cats as checked baggage.
Once you put in your Search by Route departure point and destination and click on Get Directions, you will be asked if you'd like to save your route. To save your route just fill in the information below and you'll be able to keep it as long as you'd like and access it anytime on-line.  No more printing and forgetting to take the directions with you. American Airlines (PINK:AAMRQ) has partnered with BAGS VIP Luggage Delivery to offer a baggage delivery service for its customers. At the BAGS VIP site, customers will need to input all travel information and set up payment information.
Customers can register for the service for up to two hours before their scheduled departure. If the delivery destination is within 40 miles from the airport, bags should arrive within four hours.
American Airlines boasts that it’s the only airline to offer a baggage delivery service at this time. Chicago O'Hare Airport has four terminals: Terminal 1, Terminal 2, Terminal 3 and Terminal 5. Below are listings of O'Hare air carriers according to the O'Hare Airport terminal in which they are located.
Americn Airlines explained earlier last week that the new self-service baggage drop at MIA revolves around three simple steps. American will ensure staff is on hand should customers need any assistance with the system. American have also revealed plans to implement the system at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, 25 miles north of Miami International, although no date has been confirmed as yet. You can tack on domestic economy or First Class MileSAAver award space onto these international flights for zero extra miles. You can add these to the award for zero extra miles though you will be on your own to get between the two airports. Opinions expressed here are author’s alone, not those of the credit card issuers, and have not been reviewed, approved or otherwise endorsed by the credit card issuers. Plus get a $250 Air Travel Credit each calendar year, free airport lounge access worldwide, and your fourth night free on hotel stays. Normally LAN is extremely stingy with Business Class award space, but right now there are up to seven Business Class awards per flight that you can book for only 50,000 American Airlines miles. For the moment–very likely to change very soon–there is excellent award space from October through December 2016 on nonstop flights between Los Angeles and Santiago in both directions.
It is the cleanest, wealthiest, safest-feeling city in South America in my extensive experience on the continent. Don’t be thrown off by the word “Platinum.” Both cards have no annual fee the first 12 months, and then $95.

The vast majority of international flights fly into EZE, which is about 45 minutes and $30 by car from where I stay in the Palermo neighborhood. That is the best option because the flight is short, and the price of an Avios award is based on the distance of the flight. Business Class has flat beds, but for 90 minutes in that air that isn’t very important to me. It allows me to save 5,600 Avios for 50 euros ($54), which is like buying Avios for 0.97 cents each.
The seat map online shows a 2-2 configuration in Premium Economy, which makes me think that the row is 3-3, but the middle seats are blocked. For 50,000 Alaska miles in economy or 90,000 miles in Business Class on flat beds, you can fly from the United States to three Latin American cities, like Lima, Buenos Aires, and Mexico City. In addition to that partner, you can fly Alaska Airlines flights, but you cannot combine two partners on a one way award. The LAN chart does not, meaning that using Alaska miles on LAN to fly to Northern South America isn’t a great deal.
If you haven’t used the credit yet, buy pay the taxes with your Prestige, and you will receive an offsetting credit on your next statement. Purchase with cash or points that can be used like cash for airline tickets–like Arrival miles or ThankYou Points. Since you basically have to search one day at a time, make sure a flight is operating before you bother searching that day for award space.
If you don’t register your pet ahead of time, your pet will not be permitted on the flight. If you would like to save it, you'll be asked to create you own account by putting in your email address and creating a password so you can access your directions anytime on your trip or in the future. And by saving trees and ink, you'll feel good about yourself, save money, contribute to a cleaner environment and, most importantly, be able to spend more time on having a great trip with your WHOLE family. Market indices are shown in real time, except for the DJIA, which is delayed by two minutes. For destinations exceeding 40 miles, customers will incur an additional charge of $1 per mile. United Air Lines (NYSE:UAL) once offered a similar service but discontinued it some time ago. First of all, passengers check in using the self-service kiosk, from which they can print off their own baggage tags. But it’s also a little boring, lagging way behind the culture of Buenos Aires or the food of Peru.
Once you’ve found all your space, call American Airlines at 800-882-8880 to book the award by feeding the agent the date, cabin, and flight number of each flight. Chile’s Sky Airline flies to EZE, and Air Canada and KLM fly to EZE as part of tag flights from their home countries to South America.
Also, LAN flights don’t have fuel surcharges, so the Avios award will not have fuel surcharges.
There is no chart that allows you to book the Air Canada flight for only 7,500 miles like you can book LAN with Avios.
For instance, with American Airlines miles, you could take a trip like this to South America, Easter Island, Tahiti, and Hawaii.
It operates an extensive international domestic network with flights throughout North American, the Caribbean, South America, Europe, and Asia.
When booking your flights, indicate whether or not you plan to travel with your pet to find out whether pets are allowed and if they can travel in the cabin. Between 1984 and 1993, however, there was a Terminal 4, which served as the international terminal. They then simply attach the tags to their luggage, and take the bags to a designated bag drop-off zone. I have never flown internationally into AEP, but as long as immigration procedures are roughly the same speed, it is the far better option. On domestic flights and flights to Canada, Central America, and areas in the Caribbean (including the Dominican Republic), American Airlines offers a buy on board program offering sandwiches and snacks for purchase. After Terminal 5 opened, that location was turned into the airport's ground transportation hub. It is likely that Terminal 4 will make a second appearance as a part of future O'Hare expansion projects. Southwest passengers would be among the hardest hit if IATA's recommendation becomes standard across the industry. You saved 66 cents IATA, which represents carriers that make up around 80% of air traffic, is working with manufacturers to produce suitcases that fit its specifications.
