Why am I being asked to take part in this study?

You are invited to take part in a research study conducted by Economic Research Lab at Texas A&M University, and asked to read this form so that you know about this research study. You were selected as a possible participant in this study because you expressed your interest in participating by opting into this study through M3 Global Research. Your participation in this research study is voluntary. The information in this form is provided to help you decide whether or not to take part. If you decide you do not want to participate, you may leave the website at any time without penalty. You must be 18 years of age or older and a current resident of the United States to participate.

Why is this research being done?

The purpose of this study is to examine how people make decisions when information is limited. Results from this study may help policy makers devise new tools to benefit society.

How long will the research last?

It will take about 20 minutes.

What happens if I say “Yes, I want to be in this research”?

If you decide to participate in this study, you will be playing games in the role of an expert and be making a series of decisions about solving problems for clients. Detailed instructions will be given once you decide to participate.

What happens if I do not want to participate in this research?

Your participation in this study is voluntary. You always have the option of not participating in today’s study, and you may leave at any time without penalty.

Is there any way being in this study could harm me?

There are no sensitive questions being asked in this study that should cause discomfort.

What happens to the information collected for the research?

In this study, no direct personal identifiers will be collected. Nobody, including the study researchers, will be able to link your personal information to the answers you give in the study. Your information will be kept confidential to the extent allowed by law. The results of the research study may be published, but your identity will remain confidential.

Representatives of regulatory agencies such as the Office of Human Research Protections (OHRP) and entities such as the Texas A&M University Human Subjects Protection Program may access your records to make sure the study is being run correctly and that information is collected properly.

Compensation of this study?

You will be paid $40 for completing all stages of the study, and a bonus up to $18 that will depend on your decisions in the games and on chance. The amount of compensation is in compliance with the guideline of M3 Global Research. All payments including the bonus payment will be paid to you in no longer than 2 weeks after your completion of the study.
