Feedback
Now that you have taken the IQ test and given us some information about how well you think you did, we are going to give you some feedback on your performance. With this feedback, you can update how well you think you did and earn more money.
The feedback is provided as follows:
We will give you 3 rounds of feedback in total. The feedback is meant to provide you with some information about your probability of scoring in the top half, but it is not always accurate.
There are 2 types of boxes, Red Boxes and Blue Boxes.
In a Red Box, there are 2 red balls and 1 blue ball.
In a Blue Box, there are 1 red ball and 2 blue balls.
If your score in the IQ test is in the top half, we will take 2 Red Boxes. We randomly draw one ball from each of the 2 Red Boxes. Note that because of the makeup of the Red Boxes, the 2 drawn balls can be red or blue, but more likely to be red.
If your score in the IQ test is in the bottom half, we will take 2 Blue Boxes. We randomly draw one ball from each of the 2 Blue Boxes. Note that because of the makeup of the Blue Boxes, the 2 drawn balls can be red or blue, but more likely to be blue.
Now we have 2 balls for you; call them Ball A and Ball B. If any of them is red, it is a good signal about your performance in the IQ test; if any of them is blue, it is a bad signal about your performance.
There are 3 computers whose job is to tell you the color of your Ball A and Ball B (Computer 1, Computer 2 and Computer 3). However, each computer can only randomly see 1 of the 2 balls, and will tell you the color of the ball that it sees. After you talk to each computer, we will ask you again about your belief about your probability of scoring in the top half.
For example, suppose your Ball A is red, and your Ball B is blue.
Suppose Computer 1 sees Ball B. Computer 1 would then tell you that it sees a blue ball.
Suppose computer 2 sees Ball A. Computer 2 would then tell you that it sees a red ball.
Suppose computer 3 sees Ball B. Computer 3 would then tell you that it sees a blue ball.
The color of the ball each computer sees can thus give you some information about your performance. However, you will not learn whether your score is in the top half for sure.
The procedure is illustrated in the following picture.
We will now test your understanding of our feedback with some questions. Again, you will only be allowed to proceed if you answer all of these questions correctly.
