Purpose of this Study:
The aim of this study was to increase understanding of cooperation. Specifically, how reciprocal relationships can develop into interdependent relationships. In an interdependent relationship people have a vested stake in their partners survival/wellbeing because of the by-product benefits they receive from that relationship. Therefore, if a reciprocal relationship does indeed create stake partners should be willing to pay to increase their partners survivability even if it is done anonymously. This is the hypothesis that was tested with this task. We anticipate more money spent to save partners in our ‘interdependence’ condition relative to money spent to increase partners earnings in our ‘control’ condition.
