In this experiment, you will be asked to make a series of decisions. Depending on the choices you make, you can earn money (in addition to your participation fee of £{{player.ENDOWMENT}},00) and/or can raise money for a charity of your choice.
After choosing the charity you would most likely donate to out of a list of 5, you will be asked to make a series of decisions that will be presented in a table format. You will need to complete a total of 34 tables each with 21 rows. In each row, 2 options are presented, an uncertain option (gaining money with some probability or nothing otherwise) and a certain option (gaining money with certainty), and you have to select the option you prefer the most. The payoff recipient (yourself or the charity) of the uncertain and certain options can change from one table to another. Afterwards, you will be asked to make 3 additional decisions between 2 options in which you may decide or not to reveal hidden information. Finally, you will be asked to complete 2 short surveys.
The session should take about an hour to complete.
The experiment is divided into 6 parts. Instructions will be presented at the start of each new part. Please pay attention to the instructions at the start of each new part.
Outcome selection: At the end of the session, two of your decisions (taken from two distinct tables) will be randomly selected by a computer program and will be applied. This means that the outcomes of these decisions will actually generate either additional money for you and/or money for the charity. The payments for yourself and the charity will take place shortly after the end of your participation (around a couple of days). We'd like to stress that we follow strict ethical rules: all presented information is true and we pledge to donate to your chosen charity the amount of money you will have raised for it. You will also receive proof of the total amount of money donated to each charity in a few weeks when the study will be completed by all participants.
