Johnny Depp has claimed that he was a victim of domestic violence has he concluded giving evidence in his libel case against ex-wife Amber Heard

Johnny Depp claimed that HE has been the victim of domestic abuse as he concluded his testimony in the $50million libel case against his ex-wife Amber Heard.

The 58-year-old actor is suing Amber for defamation over a 2018 article she wrote in The Washington Post, which his lawyers say falsely implies he physically and sexually abused her.

In a final question to Johnny as he concluded his testimony, Depp's lawyer Camille Vasquez asked: “What did you say in response when Ms Heard said ‘tell the world Johnny, tell them I Johnny Depp, a man, am a victim too of domestic violence?’”

Depp told the court: “I said yes, I am.'

Earlier in the day, the Pirates of the Caribbean star had said he was 'ashamed' of texts he had sent to fellow actor Paul Bettany, in which he suggested they 'burn' and 'drown' Amber.

Johnny said that he had bonded with Paul over their shared 'abstract sense of humour' and said that the texts were jokes based on a Monty Python sketch.

The court previously heard that during a 2013 text exchange with Paul, Johnny had written: “Let’s burn Amber.

“Let’s drown her before we burn her. I will f*** her burnt corpse afterwards to make sure she’s dead.”

Johnny told court that this was how and Paul dealt with difficult situations, and the comments were never “intended to be real”.

Depp said: “As these are private texts there was a lot … in context.'

“It’s important to know none of that was ever intended to be real and the language used which … yes, I am ashamed (of) has to be spread on the world like peanut butter.

“For example, the text that is about burning Ms Heard is directly from Monty Python and the sketch about burning witches and then drowning the witches.

“This is a film we’d all watch when we were 10 – it’s just irreverent and abstract humour.”

Johnny said that Amber viewed his friendship with Paul as a 'threat' and was “abominable” towards him.

He told the court: 'Ms Heard despised Mr Bettany mainly because we had become such close friends and for her he was a threat and would take me away from her.”

In audio clip played in court, Johnny also spoke about the end of his relationship with Amber, in which he is heard saying: 'Walking away is necessary... Otherwise it's just going to be a bloodbath... Like it was on the island... It's just not worth it.'

The reference to the 'island' is about the alleged argument he had with Amber while detoxing on a private island in the Bahamas during August 2014.

The court heard Amber reply: 'No one in their right mind is going to chose bloodbath over walking away.'

She also said that it's not a 'discernible choice'.

The actress was also heard saying: 'I'm not asking you to have a bloodbath over walking away, I'm asking you to work it out over prolonging it and making it bigger.'

In another clip played to the court, Amber is heard seemingly comparing her relationship with Johnny with former relationships she has had, to which Johnny shouts at her: 'Because you're a f*****g c**t.'

Following that, the court also heard that Johnny had praised Amber in a text message sent to her mother, Paige.

In the message, which Johnny sent in August 2014, he shared how thankful he was for Amber as she cared for him during a difficult time.

He wrote: 'There's no luckier man on this earth to have the strength that Amber gives me...

'Your daughter has risen far about the nightmarish task of taking care of this poor old junkie...

'Suffice to say I have never loved a woman or a thing more. She has the strength of a thousand men. And that is due to no one or nothing but you sweetheart.'

Johnny signed off the text: 'your son outlaw'.

Depp has denied all allegations that he has ever assaulted Amber.
