Johnny Depp's court case suing his ex-wife Amber Heard for defamation has now reached the end of its third week - here's what you need to know about how to watch it and when it is due to end

When does Depp vs Heard end - when is the verdict and how can I watch?

Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard are currently locked in a very public court battle over an oped she penned for the Washington Post.

Depp is suing Heard for £40million after she described herself as ‘a public figure representing domestic abuse’.

At the time of writing (April 29) the trial is reaching the end of its third week, although readers would be forgiven for thinking it had been longer.

The trial is centred around Heard’s words in the paper that she wrote in 2018. Although Depp wasn’t named in the piece, the actor has claimed the statement was defamatory, costing him paid work.

Ms Heard has in turn counter-sued her ex-husband for double the amount, wanting damages of around £80million.

They had been married between 2015 and 2017, and both of them have claimed the other was physically violent towards them.

In turn, both of them have denied these respective claims.

In total, the trial has been scheduled in the calendar to last for five weeks.

As we are now at the end of the third week of proceedings it does mean that we are more than halfway through, with just two weeks left.

However, the judge heading up events, Judge Penney S Azcarate, has a prior engagement at a conference between May 9 and May 12.

This engagement is going to delay the trial by a week so, including the week off, there are three weeks to go until we can expect to hear the judge’s ruling.

If this time schedule is kept to, then proceedings should be wrapped up on Thursday, May 9, 2022, when we can hope to hear the judge’s verdict.
