A video has emerged showing Johnny Depp dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow and feeding a baby bat.

The actor can be seen bottle feeding the premature bat named Jackie Sparrow – who he sponsored after falling in love with the winged mammal during a visit to the Australian Bat clinic on a break from filming Pirates of the Caribbean in May.

In the 30 second clip Depp listens to an expert telling him how the flying red fox is doing.

On finding out that Jackie is teething, Depp says: 'That's why she wants that dummy so much, huh?'

Trish Wimberley from the clinic told Gold Coast Bulletin that the actor has struck up quite the bond with the animal.

“She’s met Johnny a couple of times, and he came down to see her again before he flew up to the Whitsundays,” she said.

“He really has fallen in love with them, he’s quite passionate about bats.”

Depp’s love of animals has got him into trouble of late with Australian authorities.

The actor and his wife Amber Heard were accused of illegally bringing their Yorkshire Terriers Pistol and Boo into the country by private jet.

Heard was later charged with two counts of illegally importing the animals and one count of producing a false document.

The case is due to be heard in a Queensland court on September 7.
