During Amber Heard's cross-examination on Tuesday, the court was shown footage of actor James Franco entering the actress' Los Angeles apartment the night before the Aquaman star filed for divorce from Johnny Depp on 23 May 2016

Surveillance footage showing actor James Franco visiting Amber Heard at her apartment the night before she filed for divorce from Johnny Depp was shown in court on Tuesday.

Jurors were shown a video of the 127 Hours star, 44, entering Ms Heard's penthouse apartment in Los Angeles shortly before 11pm on 22 May 2016.

The Aquaman actress filed for divorce from Mr Depp the following day, after just over one year of marriage.

Mr Franco's late-night visit to Ms Heard's residence came one day after police were called to the apartment on 21 May 2016, following a violent incident where the actress claims her former husband launched a mobile phone at her. Mr Depp denies the allegations.

Ms Heard, 36, was cross-examined by Mr Depp's legal team at Virginia's Fairfax County Courthouse on Tuesday, as the defamation trial brought by the Pirates of the Caribbean actor, 58, continues.

Depp's attorney Camille Vasquez questioned the actress about her late-night visit from Mr Franco in May 2016, with Ms Heard claiming not to recall the exact date and time of her The Adderall Diaries co-star's visit.

'Let’s remind you,' Mr Depp's attorney told his former wife in court on Tuesday, before surveillance footage was shown to the court.

In the brief video, Ms Heard could be seen travelling down the lift of her apartment shortly before 11pm on 22 May 2016 wearing a large coat and no shoes.

After exiting the lift, the actress returns roughly a minute later with Mr Franco and the pair both enter the lift and travel up to her apartment together.

After watching the footage, Ms Heard confirmed that it was herself and Mr Franco in the video.

The actress has previously testified that her former husband was jealous of Mr Franco and unhappy about Ms Heard shooting certain scenes with the Oscar-nominated actor.

Ms Heard first worked with James Franco on the 2008 comedy, Pineapple Express, and again in the 2014 crime drama The Adderall Diaries.

Mr Depp is suing Ms Heard for alleged defamation over an op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post in 2018, in which she stated she was a victim of domestic abuse.

The article did not mention the actor by name.

Ms Heard is countersuing her ex-husband for $100million (£81million).

The trial continues.
