Dear participant, welcome to our study!
By participating in this study, you will be able to make real money which will include a $12 show up fee in addition to other payoffs that will be based on your decisions during the game.
This study is about a strategic decision making of two groups which are labeled as protesters and police officers. Each participant will be randomly chosen into one of these groups. There are two types of protesters labeled as anti-regime which means those who want to change the government, and nonantiregime, those who do not want to change the government. The protester types are also randomly selected. The payoffs for anti-regime protesters differ from nonantiregime protesters.
Each participant selected as a Protester can choose to play from two actions, Low or High, while each participant selected as a Police can respond with Repress or Tolerate.
A participant randomly selected as a Protester makes the first move and a participant randomly selected as a Police makes the second move by responding to protesters’ actions.
At round 1, you are randomly matched with one participant after which there will be no random re-matching. Each participant always plays ONLY against one other participant.
