Instructions for one round - Yellow player

{% endblock %} {% block content %}

The main steps for you as the Yellow player in each round are as follows:

  • You will get to see some information about the Green player you are paired with and the earnings that they earned for you. Remember that the latter's performance only determines the lottery that is then is played to determine Yellow player's (that is, your) earnings.
  • We will be keeping identities of all participants protected. In particular, we will address your Green player with a nickname rather than their real name. Thus if your Green player is 'Max' then we will address them as 'Tom' which will be a random other name.
  • We will then ask you two things:
      1) to decide the payment to the Green player from the separate pot of money;
      2) to answer some questions regarding their performance.

    1. Choosing the Payment

    Remember, we will ask you to make a payment to the Green player from a separate pot of $2.00. Note, that this pot of money is separate from your own earnings from the lottery. You will be asked to divide this pot of money between your Green player and any other random Green player that you have not been paired with but who was in the same previous experimental session. The rest of this money will come back to us (researchers).

    2. Performance Question

  • We will ask you to state the number of correct answers that you think the Green player solved correctly in that round.

  • If you correctly guess the number of questions solved correctly by the Green player you can earn an additional $1.00. This is over and above your participation fee of $1.00 and your earnings from the lottery.

  • Please, consider the following example. Assume that the Green player solved 3 questions correctly in that round.

    • If you guessed that he/she indeed solved 3 questions correctly, then you earn $1.00;
    • If you guessed that he/she solved 0,1,2 or 4 questions correctly, then you do not earn the $1.00.

  • Remember that one randomly chosen round will be picked for payments. This means that if you correctly guess the number of correct questions in one specific round and that round is randomly picked for payment, then you earn this extra $1.00, over and above the lottery earnings and the completion fee.
