Dear Madam or Sir,
Thank you for taking part in this study.
In this study we seek to investigate individual’s behavior in a social context. Therefore, you will make decisions that influence your payoff as well as the payoff of another participant. In addition, you will fill in questionnaires which assess some individual characteristics. There are no physical or legal risks involved in the study.
The study consists of two parts with a break of at least seven days between part one and part two. Part 1 should take about 20 minutes to complete and consits of you playing a game, reading the description of a situation and rating the actions that an individual has in this situation. We can only pay you if you complete both parts. Seven days after you completed the first task, we will send you the invite to participate in the second part. You then have five days to complete the second part. The second part is similar to part 1 and takes about 5 minutes to complete. We can only pay you if you complete both parts! If for any reason you cannot participate in the second part within this time frame, please contact us. We set up the payment mechanism to incentivize completion of both parts and not to punish you. For the successful completion of the experiment you will receive £2.50. Depending on the choices you make in the study you will get an additional variable bonus payment between £0.00 and £5.00 after completion of the study. The study is conducted by the center for Economic Psychology, University of Basel, Switzerland. If you have questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact the study director, Dominik Meier by e-mail: dominik.meier@unibas.ch
