You and another player, each are landowners of a single patch of forest
adjacent to each other.
Each of you will decide whether to conserve your forest or to convert it into agricultural land
The forest can provide goods (medical products, firewood, wild fruits, etc.) and services
(clean water, clean air, nice view, etc.) for a long time. Converting to agricultural land can
bring more revenue from selling the products, but it costs maintenance to keep the revenue going.
The type of the neighbour’s land can impact your gain as well. The adjacent forest can provide
services (pollination, clean air and water, etc.) and reduce the maintenance costs. However,
the adjacent agricultural land can erode the soil of the forest and degrade the forest. The gain to
each player in each scenario is simplified in the following chart:
Do you choose to conserve or convert your forest?
