Welcome to the game. You are matched with another participant, your co-player. Complying or cheating will determine the payoff for your team and affect the payoff of 9 other teams.
Note that there is only one round of the game, so think carefully about what you choose.
{% if treatment1 == 0 %} {% if treatment2 == 0 %} • You are the worker.
• Your co-player is the manager and chooses an action for your team.
• You will learn whether your team cheats or complies on the next screen.
{%else%} • You are the worker.
• Your co-player is the manager and chooses an action for your team.
• You will learn whether your team cheats or complies on the next screen.
• Then, you have the opportunity to send a feedback message to your manager.
{% endif %} {%else%} {% if treatment2 == 0 %} • You are the worker.
• Your co-player is the manager and chooses an action for your team.
• You will learn whether your team shall cheat or comply on the next screen.
• Then, you have the opportunity to veto the managers choice. The veto implies that your team complies but $0.10 will be deducted from your and your co-player's payoff.
• Then, you have the opportunity to send a feedback message to your manager.
{%else%} • You are the worker.
• You and your co-player have to choose between complying and cheating at the same time.
• If you choose the same action as your co-player, it will be implemented.
• If you choose a different action, your team complies and €{{cost}} will be deducted from your and your co-player's payoff.
• After choosing, you can observe what the manager chose and then send a feedback message.
{% formfield player.worker_decision %} {% endif %} {% endif %}
Remember:
• The base exchange rate is 1 token = €{{base}}.
• Complying yields 3 tokens for your team, the exchange rate for all teams stays the same.
• Cheating yields 5 tokens for your team, but the exchange rate for all teams drops by €{{deduction}} per token.
This is the dilemma: Cheating increases the payoff of your team, but it decreases the payoff of everybody.
